i have only seen 2 fights of his, the fight against margarito and the fight last saturday, i didn't see much difference he was relying on his power to knock the guy out which he did, but what is he going to do when he faces someone else like margarito who can take a shot?
nothing much bro, cintron will always be a power puncher...i think mathysse made him look like a new man....but dont let him fool you, he is what he is and will always be a bull dozer of a fighter....dont get me wrong, i love that, but manny didnt do **** for him....he just need some confidence and he got that when he smashed on suarez and estrada.....
He helped Cintron with his foot work and positioning in the ring. Cintron's balance was better 10 fold. He was shaky in the 1st round, but he stayed composed and implemented his game plan perfectly in round two. He stayed in the pocket and countered beautifully and kept "HIS" range. He doesn't do strong angles like Williams, but he pivots slightly enough to avoid Walters offense and kept him in perfect punching range to get full power out of his counters. He is still improving and it showed he is a FAST learner when in there with someone he respects. Very impressive considering he didn't have any AM background yet he's competting at the top right now.
He was a crude puncher before looking for the knockout. Now he is letting the KO come to him. He is boxing more. Keeping his opponent at range. Using his jab better. And just looking more comfortable in the ring. The Margarito loss was the best thing that could have happened to him because he wasnt getting any better.
First two things Manny works on is timing and distance. He gets the guys to measure their opponents and establish a range that makes use of their height and reach. He does this via the footwork and jab (which he improves immensely). Then he works on throwing shots when the openings are actually there. Thus the fighters shot selection greatly improves. Manny likes his fighters to be comfortable and because they are tall it is better they fight out of half guard. They let the jab off easier. Plus they are a little more angled off, thus making the right hand even more devastating. Manny has had too many fighters showing off his teaching values. Listen to him in the corner and watch him train guys. His teachings are flagrant. One thing I've found about Manny is he is a good coach only once he knows his protege. Manny is close to his fighters. This is why Manny is great at training them and in the corner BUT absolute bollocks at commentating. Cintron is looking like the typical Kronk fighter. Generally Mannys fighters look the same as before he got them but look closer and there is a different fighter. Manny is doing for Cintron what he has clearly done for Wlad and Lewis. EDIT - It usually looks like Kronk fighters have weak defences. Manny actually teaches them to block. Some implement it, some don't. They get so good at using their footwork and jab that they don't really need to block much. This is true of all of them. Cintron isn't as talented as Stewards great fighters so he'll need to pay attention to things like defence. As it is, it appears he is concentrating on defence.
Until he fights a guy who has both a good chin and a good punch, we wont know. thats why im not sold on him. but he is fun to watch.
