Just because it is the first time you never heard of it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It was a punch I had heard of and was taught when I was training.
I'm not saying "I know it all", its just in this case you are wrong and you have to stop being a baby about it. Just because you have 10,000 posts on a boxing forum doesn't make you an expert in boxing. It just means you spend more time in front of a computer than in a boxing gym.

Lol, first off I'm an average student in school. Second off I never said I was a super coach, I think I'm a good coach and so do my students. I try to balance school and boxing. Which isn't hard, if its all I do.
Third of all, if you look at my info it says I post an average of 1 post a day (aside from today) since I joined esb, that doesn't take more than 2 minutes.

Hey guys. What you're forgetting is that every gym and every coach uses different terminology to describe the same thing. What one coach calls a check hook, another coach might call a counter hook. What one coach calls bob & weave, another might call rolling under... It doesn't matter and it's not worth arguing about because you might actually agree with each other if you could SEE what the other guy was trying to say.

Anyway, what my gym has always called a check hook is when you turn your body 90* toward your right at the same time throwing a left hook. If you throw it as your opponent advances or over his cross, you'll end up on his side instead of in front of him.

    Later,

    Bob

Some opponents are more susceptible to the check hook than others. Rick Hatton and his lunging style happens to be one of them. I often thought that John Ruiz could have been knocked out by a check hook. Sadly, none of his opponents ever tried to do it. Come to think of it, Joe Calzaghe likes to throw the check hook. Maybe he should call out John Ruiz? Ruiz seems to enjoy getting beat by middleweights.

The only check hook thrown in the fight was the check hook counter in the very first knockdown.

Do you think Chris Byrd could have hit Wladimir Klitschko with the check hook if he had made the effort?

Common on now, don't be cynical! There are some good heavyweight prospects who will soon be making a lot of noise. As to whether they will be making check hooks is another matter.
