I love watching him box as he is one of the FEW that makes boxing look effortlessly while tattoo the other guy
GRR is one of the biggest wastes of talent ive ever seen. This dude should've been one of the most dominant fighters in the sport today.
You can say this about pretty much 98% of the PBC fighters. PBC simply don't have enough money to have many of them fight more than once or twice a year. They sit on the shelf and become irrelevant. Look at Thurman, Danny Garcia, Charlo brothers, Tank Davis, Kameda brothers and many others.
P4P talent, but doesn't have the P4P hunger. He's satisfied cruising in to retirement. Doesn't seem the type to blow through his earnings- GRJ comes off more as someone making sure he'll be able to enjoy them in 30 years. Frustrating as it is for us who want to see everything he's capable of in the ring, it looks like he's playing the long game. Once he hits whatever his target earnings number is, my guess is he's out of the game
Due to fight again at May 17, 2020... Last fight was May 18, 2019 Fight before that was May 19, 2018 Before that it was May 20, 2017 It's not rocket science.
This. Russell slowed down a few years before he met Loma. There were talks of Russell stepping up against Ponce De Leon back in 2013, but Russell turned it down. It was back then that Russell talked mad **** about everyone, but turned down good opportunities. (He of course talked **** about Loma as well, but actually took the fight) Gary boy mostly fights his mandatory obligations. Someone made a good point how most top contenders don´t want to wait around for Russell, so the title shots fall upon the likes of Oscar Escadon. And most importantly, Russell is making some really good money fighting once a year: Lomachenko - 420k Gonzales - 350k Hyland - 800k JoJo - 1.4m plus gate. Fair to say that Russell also made a killing when he fought Kiko and Escadon. So they are absolutely fine with taking small risks and big paydays.
He doesn't fight for greatness, just for a cheque. Nothing wrong with that, though it does stifle the division.
Tugstsogt Nyambayar? The IBO champ and WBC mandatory? Olympic silver medallist and a top prospect. Ring a bell?
