Yes, but not as much. That's what resumes do for fighters; they add or subtract kudos fight-by-fight, year-on-year. GGG's fairly tepid fight record won't be rectified by a victory over Jacobs, but it will be enhanced. Unless the vanquished fighter is pound-4-pound level, one fight cannot define the career of a fighter wanting to be considered great.
I'm not a Golovkin detractor, but I don't rate Jacobs so this won't change anything for me. Jacobs himself may change my opinion by either doing well in this fight or doing well in his fights afterwards but I don't see it happening.
Knew there'd be one. He could beat Lee, Jacobs, BJS, Canelo and he'd still have to win the morons over.
You misunderstood my post entirely. I like Golovkin, I think he's the best middleweight out there. I think he beats all of those guys you just mentioned. I don't rate Jacobs, I think he matches evenly with or loses to the guys you mentioned. Therefore, beating Jacobs doesn't elevate Golovkin's status to me because I don't think Jacobs is that good. To me he is a guy that has only fought 2 decent opponents ever, one of which he lost to.
He's stopped fighters who have took the best MW's prior to GGG the distance (Macklin/Murray. Both were world class). Had the best avoid him... for years. Has been linked to fighting LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS such is the avoidance of the man.
Its still going to happen regardless of the result. Triple G is not going to receive credit. Deal with it LOL When a certain fighter has a massive amount of haters. They will dismiss and look for any kind of holes in thier recent accomplishments . They are here to diminish , not to praise.
Is he though? Is he? Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with Jacobs, but I'm not seeing it. I'll rewatch his fight against Quillin. I remember when I first saw it I thought it was stopped too early so I didn't really consider it much, but I never saw it again so I could be remembering the fight wrong entirely.
Of course the puerile 'Bumlovkin'/'Little G' crowd won't give him the credit he deserves. Who cares about them anyway? They're beyond reason. No sensible person doubts that Jacobs is a top middleweight.
If this fight signed yet or what? I'd have to agree with the guy that said "slight bump but not by much". Jacbos is probably a B level guy. But its probably the best fight for Golovkin at 160 sans Canelo. So I'd be happy about it and call it a step in the right direction for Golovkin.
Pretty much this. It will do a hell of a lot more than his fights in 2016 did for his resume, but it's not as if a victory over Jacobs equates to a victory over prime Hagler. Jacobs is talented, but plenty flawed, and Golovkin is fully expected to beat him without much trouble. It's one of the better fights at 160 Golovkin can make right now, possibly even the best fight he can make at 160. But a victory against Jacobs won't be anything that defies the odds. Quite the contrary.
