Honestly this was a pretty dumb move by Canelo. He could have fought someone like Angulo or Ishe Smith. There was really was no rush to fight someone as dangerous as Trout. And to the people saying he was forced to due to the fans pressuring him thats bs. Maybe the haters on boxing forums were talking but no casual fans cared. GBP was right to want a different fight for him. They are responsible for shaping his career and if they wanted the Mayweather fight, this was the worst fight to take. However i think Canelo realised that if he wants to fight Floyd, hes going to have to prove himself in a big way. Beating someone like Trout would send a message to all the fans that he is the best at 154 and deserves his shot at Floyd. There will be a huge demand for Mayweather Canelo if they both win their next fights.
