So, where do we stand with PPV in 2016?

If it's not a BIG fight with a good undercard, it's very unlikely I'll pay.

Last nights PPV embarrasses the sport. There's not enough exposure on a Sky platform, let alone Sky PPV.

One of best British heavyweights fights for decades and it embarrasses the sport?

The Wlad v Klit was a disgrace to the sport and right up there with Williams v Fraudley as the worst ever fight at Heavyweight.

Last night was a very good fight but should have been on Sky Sports as it is only a domestic British Title fight.

    Wlad v Klit?

Must have missed that one! Lol

I'm guessing you meant Wlad v fury

Thing with that fight was not knowing if it could change at any time right to the last bell

And not knowing how judges were scoring it

It was riveting viewing in its own way

In that fight winning was the only thing that Fury could aim to do - however ugly

I expect Furys future fights whilst he's champion (however long or short that reign is) to be far more exciting

Rematch will be better I'm sure

Can see the rematch exactly the same type of fight except the decision.

I had the misfortune of going to Akinwande/Nelson; no fight, let alone 'just Heavyweights', comes close to that as the 'worst ever fight'. Nelson/Deleon was a thriller compared to it.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the EU next year are looking to push through a law that would mean that any EU citizen can purchase a TV package from any EU nation. So for example someone in the UK could buy a French sports package to watch the 3pm kick offs via a connected TV. Could be interesting for boxing- may impact PPV.

From what I understand reading up on it is that, that is not the case. What the law means is if for example you have SKY GO, it would work on your mobile and other devices in all the EU; you cannot buy another EU country's package unless you have residency.

The fact that a British title fight headlined a PPV is an embarrassment. The fight was fun to watch, but this is not the reason why it was a PPV as obviously you never know how a fight will pan out.

PPV is usually given to what is perceived to be an even match up before hand at the highest levels in a matchup that could potentially generate a lot of money.

Obviously AJ is a money maker, but many objective fans didn't see this as a 50/50 match up going into the fight and it certainly wasn't a fight between two elite fighters.

Hearn lowered the already declining bench mark for PPV with Bellew vs Cleverly and he has managed to lower it even further with Joshua vs Whyte.

That's because USUALLY when there is a world title at stake people expect both fighters could win

Normally only world titles generate enough interest in PPV

But you are entirely missing the point

PPV is decided purely on demand from people who will pay to watch the fight

You could get all our current British world champions to fight on same card against 50/50 opponents (excluding Fury who now has elevated himself)

And you could have Joshua fighting more or less anyone on another bill with a few up and comers below him

And I guarantee that the Joshua bill would have more PPV subscribers

    It's supply and demand

Sorry but that's what it is

This year when on regular sky Joshua's fight with Cornish pulled in TREBLE the amount of viewers as the Crolla and Quigg double header world title bill

No world title and Joshua fighting a total underdog

TREBLE the audience of a double world title bill involving British fighters

Those figures tell you everything you need to know about boxing audience on sky tv

That's a fact - its all detailed in Boxing News

And fact is sky don't do PPV for any other reason than generating income and Joshua is currently the biggest income generator in Britain by some way

Fury up there as well now of course

It's about who wants to watch who fight and titles and 50/50 matches clearly aren't what is attracting the wider British audience on sky tv

Your view on PPV is not correct. Nothing to do with 50/50 fights it's about explosive action mate

And if you asked average man in the street - Joshua is already a far bigger name than the like of Crolla etc

That's just a fact of life

I spoke to Eddie Hearn about a flyweight boxer I knew and how he could improve himslef and promote etc

Eddies reply was unfortunately it's an incredibly tough division to promote

Whereas at other end of spectrum heavyweight division is clearly the easiest to promote by some way

PPV lives or dies by the market just like everything else. At the moment it's doing just fine.

If you don't like it stream or catch up on youtube.. :conf

Correct some boxing fans on here are confusing reason for PPV with what they want to see compared to what the wider public want to see

Wider public at the moment want to see Joshua and will pay to watch him

And that will continue until he loses and may continue longer depending how close it is when he loses

    It's a bandwagon

And wider public would prefer to see a three round knockout when Joshua fights than a 12 round 50/50 close points result

The viewing figures speak for themselves
