Calzaghe isn't a joke but he's no where near as schooled as Roy ... Roy has achieved everything there was to achieve since his amateur days and has the mindset of a guy that had never lost a fight. He obviously sees flaws in Calzaghe, which has made him challenge Calzaghe outright. Calzaghe will get knocked out ... Jones is the best guy that Calzaghe has ever faced in his whole boxing career (amateurs or pros) and he will prove that. Calzaghe doesn't even stand up to the guys that beat Roy ... Calzaghe is a finess fighter w/ speed and agility ... he doesn't have much power and at times will abandon his defense and brawl -- RJJ is also the fastest fighter that Joe will ever face ... he has more savvy ... just as much speed ... and a killer right hand/left hook --
I think Roy can pull it off. He needs to do it by knockout because he can win 10 or 11 rounds and still lose a split decision it they fight in Wales.
I honestly have no idea what Roy has left, but I will be rooting for him so hard when the fight happens that I will go coarse. And I know it's even more unlikely but I want that little ***** laid out.
I think Jones will win. Even though fighters aren't always the same fighter against every opponent, if he comes out and he puts up as good of a fight as he did against Hopkins, Roy will beat him. I'm pickin Roy, he's lookin real serious about fightin Joe, I pick Roy.
Whilst Roy would win by murder in his prime, he is just too shot. His workrate will be frustratingly low to watch, he will tag him easily when he tries, but that won't be often.
Calzaghe stands no chance ... he's not a "dog" like Tarver or Johnson ... who are relentless pressure fighters who have power.
I didn't know 2 losses makes you shot ... what about Calzaghe's level of opposition -- even if Roy is shot like some of you claim - even a shell of his former self is better than all of Calzaghe's opposition. He's still fast and he's still very skilled and is as smart as they come when it comes to boxing and ring knowledge.
If Roy is 80% or more of his prime, its a win for RJJ. Anything less will result in him getting KO'ed
this is a fight between 2 legends of our time givin it one last finale for them and the public, they're paths had to cross sometime.
I think Calzaghe is in for the ass whooping of his life. Everytime Hopkins feinted it set Joe of rythm and we all know nobody feints better than Roy. Roy still has super handspeed and he has power. And everybody could tell that Jones wasn't trying to finish Trinidad even though he could. Jones is a freak of nature, his footwork is still one of the best out there. Hopkins right hand is like slow motion compared to Jones, and if Hopkins was able to catch him with it frequently imagine what Roy will do to him. Roy also knows how to mix it up to the body and he delivers lighting quick blows with power from ******edly weird angles. I believe Calzaghe has a 10% chance of winning.
You bring up a great point early in your post, as far as the fienting is concerned, but saying that Calzaghe has only a 10% chance of beating a near washed up Jones is just crazy imo. The version of Roy now is not better than the current Hopkins, if you watch both fight you will see why. Jones will take Calzaghe the distance and lose by wider margin than Hopkins, he is not the same fighter he was 7, 8 years ago, it's time to move on unsentdemon, and yes I do give Jones a chance to win, but it's nowhere near 90%.
I honestly don't see Calzaghe winning this at all. Hopkins was completely outclassing Calzaghe until he ran out of stamina, that won't happen with Jones. I also believe that Jones is better than Hopkins. As soon as joe starts eating lead left hooks and straight rights he'll get frustrated and begin to throw those E.honda slap combos and probably get dropped. Roy was superhuman back in the day, but today he is still a great talent. I see thir fight as a true massacre.
