What happened to Shavers (so Tucker misses out)?

I realized that I'd forgotten 'Buster' - plus Shavers was ancient by the early-mid 1980's lol. So I took Ernie out. If I hadn't remembered about Douglas he'd make it in (if only cause it would be more exciting than TNT). :yep

Plus Buster was routinely outboxing Tucker until he gave up.

Sorry mate, I just never thought that much of Tucker. Big, awkward, durable guy who was happy enough alot of the time to just fight ultra-cautious and negative. Never even had a great deal of ability in my view: just an average jock. God knows how he warranted all those title shots.

You've been listening to that frigging Dinner too much! He's no world beater, but he sure is decent. Cards were even vs Douglas and he simply outlasted and outgutted the more talented opponent. I must watch that again to make sure i'm not missing anything. I've always thought him a good fighter and am going to have a deeper look in case i'm wrong, as there's some growing sentiment against him in here.

As a matter of fact i see a good stir coming on, this topic is worthy of a thread later this week

Could we put Jose Napoles in the tournament at 140? They say he was better at the weight then he was at welter. (Aside from Duran and Whitaker, he beats everybody)

I think he's about even money with Pea at 140. Duran would always be bad for him though.

I think Chavez would be bad for him too given his tendency to mark up. Chavez I think can take his shots at 140, and if they are trading in a war like fashion, Napoles' facial features will scramble. I very much see a Chavez stoppage whilst he is down a few points late in the fight.

To be honest, I see Napoles as a very bad matchup for Chavez rather than vice-versa. He's a better boxer, has better power, is every bit as strong if not more so, and could hold his own with, and likely win, the majority of exchanges. I don't think the fight would favor Chavez because I don't believe he'd be able to keep it an inside fight, what with Napoles's power, movement, and accuracy acting as a strong deterrant. I think Chavez would have a lot of trouble adapting to someone who is so well versed, and who wouldn't allow him any real advantages to work with. I guess a cuts stoppage is always possible with Napoles, but I think too often he's favored over based solely on that, and I don't think Chavez would be able to get enough going to get the blood flowing. Would be a very difficult matchup for him to decipher and I see Napoles winning wide.

Dunno guys...Napoles would have been closer to his prime at the lighter weight, and the way he tortured very tough opponents like Lewis, Cokes, Lopez, and Muniz (Muniz I believe stated Napoles hit harder than Ray Leonard)
The Napoles that beat Cokes was brilliant. I'd imagine the lighter version of Napoles was something like that. I'd have to break down film to pick a winner between Duran/Whitaker/Napoles...But from this corner, I'd take Napoles anytime over JCC. My two cents for what it's worth... (about two cents)
Addendum: I think I'd take Napoles over everyone But Duran/Whitaker at 140. Gents, the man was a killer! A very powerful, ultra -aggressive, accurate puncher. With slick reflexes and footwork. Not much more to ask for in a fighter.
