Very harsh after being champ for 5 months and kopping a injury training for a first defence.

How serious is Barkers injury - how long will he be out?

Brian Peters has talked about Thomond Park being a venue for a Lee fight.

Like the way they used Yankee Stadium and Upton Park recently, they wouldnt necessarily use the full stadium.

Obviously it would have to include other high profile fighters as well to bolster the card - Willie Casey v Paulie Hyland springs to mind - maybe Rogie etc. Also Frank Warren has just signed Ormond, Tims and O'Sullivan so I wouldnt be surprised to see him make a play for the Irish market.

What if Macklin lost the fight for the vacant title? Barker has no title and no big domestic payday. Much better from his POV to hold onto the title and re-arrange the date if mackin wins on the 18th.

Its not as if he's repeatedly postponed defences, its a one off injury thats caused a fight cancellation, it happens in boxing.

Barker needs to the honorable thing just like Macklin and drop the title.

    Why should Barker vacate?

Just because Macklin chose to doesn't mean he should be held up as some shining light.... in fact I'd consider it a stupid move on his part.

Fighters vacating titles all over the place devalues them - the Commonwealth isn't worth a wank for the same reason. Macklin should have kept the title when he won it.

As Gaz said, if Macklin gets beat in the vacant title fight then where is Barker's pay day?

Where does he go - back to domestic?

Thats fair enough, I'd forgotten about that but, TBH, I was never quite sure why Macklin did what he did.

Unfortunately out of the fighters suggested, Belghecham seems the most likely on short notice. Any of Lee, McEwan and Proksa would be excellent opponents imo but are unlikely to happen on such short notice.

As for Barker and the title, I don't think he should drop it unless he is guaranteed a shot at a later date.
