Fought from LHW to HW. Only fought for six years total. Knocked out Prince Charles William's in one and them in a ultra ballsy performance beat a peak Bert Cooper.
Who cares? Gross beat a green / raw Cooper on ESPN back in '86.... I got the fight on tape........ Coop went on to become a name, while Gross became pretty gross as a fighter........ SR.BILL
A very capable pro, Baltimore tough guy and ex convict , Reggie was decent and never really avoided anyone .. at heavy i remember him giving Frank Bruno a whole bunch of trouble when they boxed in Spain ona card with Honeyghan v Gene Hatcher... Gross faced Razor Ruddock on the TYson v Spinks card in AC in 88 .. Reggie could have been quite good if he'd have stayed out of trouble more.....
Gross was good. He came to fight against Tyson and was throwing leather (not hitting much) until he was stopped.
80s heavyweights are not one of my best areas, so I do remember him from the famous sequence with Tyson, but I'm afraid that is it, except that I heard that he went back to prison not too long after the Tyson fight. According to a quick google search, he's still there, with the possibility of parole coming up in 2014.
the term "thrown to the wolves" comes to mind. could have been something better but facing a young ferguson, a tyson, ruddock and bruno and even rodilriques shows no compassion by his management, if there even was some.
isnt he serving life for 4 gang related murders, and has been inside for many years. seem to remember reading he was an enforcer for some drug dealers...as afighter he was ok,lets not forget many fighters better than reggie got stopped quickly by tyson. at least reggie had a go...
All of those fights were at the end of his career. More like collecting paychecks then being thrown to the wolves.
Reggie was a good fighter, he was fearless, and never got out hyped or psyched by anyones reputation... He was generaly a tough guy who had half decent tools to hang in very good company and survive... he wasn't a punk.........
Stopped a former amateur star named jimmy clark at one point.Got kayoed by Tyson, and that's really all I know about him.
A solid journeyman, nearly upset Bruno, in of all places, a Marbella bullring. The night before proving that the rain in Spain does not mainly fall on the plain, but also in bullrings, that cause fights to be postponed.
