I mean realistically... I pulled Adamek off the poll as he moved up to HW and has a fight lined up and not discussing Haye (mandatory ahead) and Roy (just lost) for obvious reasons. We are talking about a fight and a fighter for early 2010.

Notice I use values (1 to 5) to score:
-Historical recognition: ABC titles/linealage/division value/opponent's quality on resume
-Monetary reward: based on the opponent's popularity, ticket sales, TV money, etc.
-Fight difficulty: the difficulty the opponent (skill level, style) and the weight division (whether BHop has to move up or down) poses

    1) Lucian Bute at 168: Bute recently knocked out Andrade on HBO before a huge crowd, he's The Ring #1 SMW the IBF titleholder and Bernard never won a SMW belt. Bute is a powerful slickster and moving down to 168 might be an extra task for BH at 45.
    Historical recognition: 4
    Moneatry reward: 3
    Fight difficulty: 4,5

    2) Chad Dawson at 175: Dawson is unbeaten, an HBO fighter but draws little money and no fans, though HBO might put some cash on the table and called out Hopkins publicly. He doesn't hold a legit title ATM but ranked #9 P4P by The Ring.
    Historical recognition: 3
    Monetary reward: 3,5
    Fight difficulty: 4

    3) Zsolt Erdei at 175 or 200: Erdei is unbeaten but unknown outside of his hometown. But he's the lineal LHW champ (a title Hopkins never held) and also the WBC CW champ (was 178lbs for the CW fight, ideal weight for Hopkins for a "200" fight). Erdei's style suits Hopkins better than Bute's or Dawson's. Some money could come from the German TV.
    Historical recognition at 175: 3,5
    Historical recognition at 200: 4
    Monetary reward: 2
    Fight difficulty: 3,5

    4) Jean Pascal at 175: WBC champ fights a rematch in a few days, he's becoming pretty big in Canada, and his style suits Hopkins, who never held an ABC title at 175.
    Historical recognition at 175: 3
    Monetary reward: 2,5
    Fight difficulty: 3

    5) Tavoris Cloud at 175: the IBF LHW champ is little known and yet to prove his quality at the highest level, but is a titleholder with a style suited for Hopkins, also a chance for BH to grab an ABC belt at 175.
    Historical recognition: 3
    Monetary reward: 1,5
    Fight difficulty: 2,5

    6) Paul Williams at 170: yes, this fight has a chance happening, PDub is an HBO fighter who'd love to face Bernard, though he must get past Martinez at 160. PW is very tall with a significant reach and height advantage over Hopkins, but physically much weaker, throws 1000 punches and has an awkward style. Had he fought and beat Pavlik historically it'd mean much more, but he's still recognized as #10 P4P by The Ring. He doesn't hold a title right now.
    Historical recognition: 2,5
    Monetary reward: 3
    Fight difficulty: 2,5

    7) Tomasz Adamek at 200: Like I sad, with a HW fight lined up, there's only an outside chance of this fight happening in early 2010, although it might be the most interesting match-up out there. Adamek is The Ring/lineal CW champ, a good name who poses a huge physical threat to Hopkins but also has a suitable style for the old man. He's a good ticket seller to bring some money.
    Historical recognition: 4,5
    Monetary reward: 2,5
    Fight difficulty: 4

Chad Dawson for the vacant ring light heavyweight championship. Beating dawson is his final destiny. He already accomplished so much and the best way to end his career is by beating the best light heavyweight today.

    1) Dawson... most legit fight, for the ring belt @ LHW
    2) Erdei... a world title @ CW

    3) Why not James Toney at heavyweight? Boring fight,,, but great pre-fight antics.

chad dawson..he is a much better fighter than any guy on that list...I wouldn't mind seeing the RJJ rematch but I think RJJ should retire really....I wouldn't mind seeing him move up to HW either

He should fight Williams. Williams might be a fighter that people are talking about 20 years from now. The rest of the list probably not.

Being a Hopkins fan, i don't want him to fight Dawson because i think Dawson beats him. Just a terrible style match up for Hopkins and i don't want him to go out on a loss. I would rather have him face someone he has a better chance of beating.

I did not realize that Erdei is now the WBC CW champ. So i would say him. Hopkins toys with Erdei and gains that CW belt. Little risk, high reward..

Erdei at 175 especially if the CW belt was at steak as well as the linear LHW title.
Don“t know if there is a rule at the WBC that will prevent scenario.

I hear what you say - but PW, I feel is still vastly underated - could be a very interesting matchup - his punch output is sensational
