So... who should Hopkins fight next? - with list & thoughts

If he's not going to go for the best he may aswell retire. Age is no excuse for cherrypicking in my book.

 

He should fight either Dawson or Adamek and then retire... Those two fights are the only significant fights for him...

Beating Bute dont mean nothing for him as this point. He's conquered much greater fighters than Bute so it's a waste of time.

 

GTFO of here with that. How many fighters in the history of any sports have there been guys like Hopkins, someone who is at the top of the sport at age 45? I think him not taking on the best out there is excusable given his circumstances. Him fighting a legit champ, however overrated he may be, is still ok in my book. It has historical significance.

If Hopkins would lose to Williams it would not be so bad. Because it would just prove how awesome PW is and the new generation takes it over from the next generation.

If Hopkins wins a fight with PW there still is a good change PW will become a ATG WW, LMW, MW champion.

What it comes down to. A PW fight might mean win over a ATG or getting retired by a ATG (arguably due to age).

 

Lucian, at 170 or Dawson at 175. Either way would be fine.

 

Erdei would be a great cap to his career, I think. With Dawson there's WAY too much risk and no belt. Erdei he gets the lineal LHW or an ABC cruiser belt. I also think it is a great style match-up for him. Pretty easy UD for him.

 

Being a good boxer at 45 is fantastic, but I still don't see why it is an excuse for cherrypicking. If he is at the top like you say, and p4p #4 like the rankings say, then why not fight Dawson?

 

Hopkins was underdog against Tito, Tarver, Calzaghe, and Pavlik and he performed well in those fights. He should fight Dawson, that would make history, a 45 year old that is written off, pull off another victory.

Fighting a weaker opponent, as your way out of the sport, is something people like Calzaghe do

Dawson is a catch-22. I'd like to see Hopkins fight Dawson but i'd also like to see Dawson off the senior circuit

 

Yeah, I'm going to say Dawson. Neither of them have a more qualified dance partner right now, both have something to gain from a win. Not a fight that sets me on fire or anything but a solid matchup.

 

At the same time thier are the best fighters at the weight. Who at 175 is better then Hopkins???

With the Johnson fight you were amoung those sring the most about Dawson taking the rematch, I recall you calling Dawson a coward for not fighting Johnson. But once he did you have a problem with that.

Dawson has to fight someone, Diaconu pulled out, Cloud refused to play ball with HBO and Dawson, Kessler said FU. Hopkins has no interest. Who should he fight???
