First off, I am not convinced he will actually go through with it. His money demands are absurd (250 mil, he quoted) and without Joshua (at least for awhile), there is no light at the end of the tunnel. We have heard that if he does come back, he will have a tune-up. Supposedly Makhmudov is the frontrunner, but I personally think Joe Joyce is the perfect combo of brandname and completely shot. I'll say Joyce.
Chisora 4 all jokes aside, I wouldn’t mind seeing him against Dubois though it’s a very risky fight if fury gasses out. That uppercut that shattered Whyte would do the same thing to Daniel imo.
Money-wise the only lower risk, high reward option that really exists is Ngannou 2, but not sure how realistic that is It will probably be a no-name, a top 50 (or worse) sort of HW. I’d actually be surprised if it was someone as “good” as Joe Joyce
I'd like to see him go against a big puncher like Dubios or Zhang. It'll likely be Makmudov though as both of the aforementioned fighters have come off a loss. But if he is eyeing a potential Usyk rematch, he should be looking at fighting Kabayel for a more unique style.
Probably Makhmudov (which as a tune up fight isn't too bad to be fair, at least he can punch so there is some intrigue there), followed by another tune up, and then a cash-out fight and then retirement. Give it another year and then repeat the whole process.
Gassiev or Makhmudov, and then a big payday vs Usyk. He most probably won't fight AJ. Why would he want to face a big (top 5?) puncher like Dubois at this stage?
Because Dubois can be chinned by lesser punchers, when Fury sits down on his punches and stops slapping he genuinely has some pop. Only problem is that his chin and cardio have deteriorated significantly.
By "lesser punchers" do you mean Joyce and Usyk? Dubois wasn't chinned by Miller, Hrgovic or powerpunching AJ. He was knocked down by Lerena, but Lerena's got decent handspeed and is (most probably) on a cocktail of peds since he got busted one time. Dubois is only high risk low reward for Fury.
Safety first comeback followed by wardley, joshua, usyk. Got to target wardley. Has a belt and has weaknesses that fury can exploit even if hes potentially dangerous. I dont see the point in coming back just to fight usyk with safety first routes to get there. He lost twice already. Fury,s had a good career. Its time to finish it strong to cement his place. That place will be below usyk. But it will cement his place as a close number 2 depending on how them fights go. A great fighter. Freak of nature tbh. Only bettered by a fella who,s preparation and discipline was unrivalled....who will go down as an all time great in usyk. Both should. Fury still defo needs to cement that in tho. Hes not quite done enough without a few more big wins. Not that its all that important in the grand scheme of things. I think if anything tho his ability deserves it. Six foot six. Can move. Can box. Can fight. Great boxing brain. Fast hands. Great judgement of distance etc. Incredible talent giving his size etc.
Makhmudov seems the obvious answer. A weak gatekeeper at best. Would like to see Fury V Zhang but that won’t happen.
