I think Johnson is underrated, but if he rocking ko's, then something is wrong. Seldon just got paid...

"In the prelim to the main event of a gofight.tv live internet boxing card promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing, heavyweight Kevin Johnson won his twentieth consecutive bout with a fifth round stoppage of former WBA Heavyweight champion Bruce Seldon. Appearing in the best shape of his career in more than a decade, Seldon moved forward and won the first round, landing some big power shots that put Johnson on the defensive on the ropes and forcd him to 'weather the storm'. Starting in the second round, though, Johnson's jab landed consistently, causing Seldon's left eye to swell. In the third, Johnson, put Seldon down with a right hook for a nine count. Seldon bravely got up and fought on for another two rounds, but was getting hit by Johnson's jabs more and more and his left eye was closing. Another big right hook put Seldon down face first in the fifth. He beat the count again, but the referee stopped it at 2:28 of the fifth as he was out on his feet. "

Tye Fields knocked Seldon out in 2.
I don't think this fight indicates too much for Kevin.

Mind you, Seldon was waaaaay out of shape for Fields (263lbs!)
That fight, I reckon you could say Bruce just turned up for a payday.

At least he was in fighting shape and tried against Johnson.

Ive said it before at this level Kevin is going to be near unbeatable. His style is hard to contend with and his careful, jabfest approach at ESPN level, I doubt he gets beaten by to many guys there.

But when he steps up Im predicting disaster. You need more than a jab at the top echlon and he looks seriously confused when it is taken out of the equation, even for a short amount of time. Not so sure he reacts well to being under the pump either.

Really hard to tell much with a 41 year old Seldon. Unlike guys like Donald or Byrd, who relied on defense and never took much punishment, Seldon was a puncher. At 41, and after all the fights he let himself get grossly out of shape in, all we can really say is that Kevin was forced to let his hands go more and took it to a name. I have serious doubts about Kevin's ability to achieve at the highest levels.

I agree as far as that level, but because his jab is so lethal, I can see him being very competitive against some of the heavy footed, lesser skilled top tier fighters.

Yeah but for this win you also have to look at his win over Terry Smith, which was mediocre.

Johnson needed to ko Seldon. Even though he's not a big puncher Seldon is done and Johnson should have finished him off. Seldon still represents the biggest name on Johnson's resume but he really should be mixing it up with someone in or near the top 10. If he's going to fight a veteran fighter who is past their best it should still be someone who isn't totally shot like Barret, Meehan, Williamson, Lyakovich or someone similar.

There is some new blood in the heavyweight division and they are all fighting on HBO or Showtime against quality opposition. Povetkin, Arreola, Haye, Chambers are all making big noise. Johnson needs to get into that mix as well. I think he is better or on par with all those guys.
