Sure I (and most people) predicted a Joe points win, he doesn't punch concussively and I knew RJJ would fight in a shell. But with the long and high profile careers these guys have had, anyone who was surprised by their style hasn't been paying attention.

Joe was floored and hurt in round one, there was a shocking cut, some quality on show. It was not the best fight ever but in no way a 'joke fight'.

I enjoyed the fight, I thought it was a fun event in many respects and the mutual respect shown between the two was a particular breath of fresh air...

Nonetheless, this was as most anticipated, a pale shadow of RJJ. He did give JC issues as some like myself expected, but when the cut came the fight became plain uncomfortable for this fight fan to watch. Let me explain...

My first experience of Jones was when I first got into boxing back in 2003...and that was him beating Ruiz. As I learned more, I went back over his career and saw that this guy was untouchable, a superman that had beaten with relative ease the likes of Bernard Hopkins and James Toney, 2 top 10 pound for pound fighters....the stuff he could do in the ring with truely awespiring, and the fact that a former MW was being touted to fight VK or LL at HW was incredible in itself...

Fast forward 5 years and 3 losses later and I see that Jones is reduced to a few punches a round, with the super reflexes gone and a hideous cut worthy of stopping many a bout....he's being pounded on by the P4P #2....

That was uncomfortable to watch and I feel the bout should have been stopped....at the same time I'm happy for JC though a small part of me wants one last fight in Cardiff to wrap up an incredible career.

Mentally perhaps but as for all this aclimitising to the weight bollocks thats just hype. Jones was up for it but just old. Did himself proud though.

I got a good night's sleep instead, I really didn't figure RJJ had much chance. I would've been truly staggered to wake up and find out that Roy had won...I didn't think Joe would knock him out, although it sounds like he was knackered by the final rounds, but I definitely thought Calzaghe UD12 all the way.

Which is not to detract from Joe's performance. Just that I could only see one winner and I needed a kip...

Yea the guy was devastating against Hanshaw, and that Prince guy - and moved like a ballerina against Tito.

The guy doesn't even have the quality the be a decent contender anymore he's that gone.

The problem for me was the first round.

When Jones floored Calzaghe i thought we were going to be in for a real good un.

I thought the old Roy may be back but then the fight went down hill.

Both guys are past their best and the fight was far from pleasing to the eye.

Its not a fight i would show to people to try and bring new fans to the sport.

cant believe it, just logged on for the first time since i made this thread and seen all these posts, for some reason i was not able to access the forum last night, what a shame
would have liked to have joined in.

oh well, calzaghe boxed very well, after such a great display i very much doubt if joe will retire, only problem is i cant see a fight big enough for him anymore, he wont want bernard again, no point rematching jones, and noone else is a big enough attraction, funny comments by buncey on setanta about chad dawsons drawing ability lol

So did I. Jones was not as shot as people claim, and Joe seemed to raise his game as well.

If this were not two legends fighting, we would all be saying what a good fight it was. (Which it was!)
