Apparently Barrera was too much of a risk as well. So who's he fighting next? He's scheduled to fight on 3/26 and no opponent set as of now with 2 months to go. Any ideas?
Whoever it is, hopefully it gets confirmed soon. With about 10 weeks to go it will soon become critical for Ward to have a confirmed opponent or we could see a repeat of what happened in November and with too little time to allow any acceptable opponent the time for a full training camp which means he could be left s****ing the barrel or forced to delay the fight again. Hopefully Barrera is simply looking to squeeze as much cash out of Ward and Roc Nation and they can come to terms.
Barrera is kind of like the definition of high risk/low reward at 175 right now. I doubt Ward or anyone would like to face him unless they absolutely have to, which Ward doesn't.
That makes a lot of sense but the reality is they're apparently still negotiating. Virgil Hunter has also said he'd prefer Barrera because of his height. Moreover, If they had no interest in Barrera they would have never made him a 300K offer in the first place.
Andre S.O.G. Ward ‏@andreward Jan 10 "@sullivanbarrera Only time I'm gonna respond to you buddy. You can call us JC Penny, we ain't got no money for you. Not getting rich off us" I've seen quite a few build ups and this certainly doesn't sound like they are negotiating.
it was an odd thing to say, wasn't it? But according to Barrera's promoter they are still negotiating.
