    The fight was somewhat controversial.

    A split-decision.

Hopkins wanted it and was prepared to go to Wales for it.

Hopkins was the champ and gave Calzaghe the opportunity how come JC didnt return the favor?

The "we dont fight rematches" statement by Enzo is bull**** because they fought Mario Veit twice.

    So what gives?

fight was boring as ****, hopkins faking low blows, would do the same in a rematch.

    Calzaghe had nothing to gain.

Calzaghe went to Hopkins' hometown and division and shortly after he got the win (about 75% having him ahead at the time, how easily public opionion changes), he and Roy text-messaged and their fight was on. Joe was always going to have one more and walk away, and that's exactly what he did. I guess retiring on his own terms still pisses some people who will show up in mere minutes and call him a coward.

Deep down, Calzaghe knew BHOP just wanted to be dry humped again and he didn't want to go through that kind of drama again. It took long enough to get Bernard to stop calling him after that fight. He wasn't going through it again. He wished he knew how to quit Bernard. The wish was granted.

calzaghe's a ***** and ran into retirement to keep the 0 that he really lost against hopkins. he didn't want hopkins to embarrass him in front of all of his disillusioned fans.

Why should there be? It wasn't very controversial, there wasn't anything that influenced the fight and it was in Bernard's backyard with 3 US judges (if I recall correctly), and an US referee... all the cards stacked in B-Hop's favour, and still he couldn't win it.

    No need for a rematch.

    Several reasons:
    1. Hopkins made the fight look really bad. Styles makes fights. Styles also sells seats. No way anyone is going to buy the second fight after that stinker.
    2. Hopkins made the fight look really bad 2. He never really fought Calzaghe when the going got tough. He had to fake getting fouled when he's the foulmaster extraordinaire. On his home soil even.
    3. Calzaghe was forced to fight Veit in a mandatory by the Veit's promoters, who had more political power than Frank Warren ever had. That's why the fight happened in Germany. And Calzaghe wanted to keep his belt badly.

But the biggest reason is that Calzaghe wasn't growing any younger (he's not a Hopkins ageless specimen) and he wanted the money. No one is going to buy the rematch and that's contradictory to the money problem. Besides, he already beat Hopkins, figured him out in the second half of the fight, timing Hops with punches, and if this happened in Wales, which it would have to, no way Hopkins was going to win at all. So there really is no need for another fight.

The only thing good about that fight is how laughable Hopkins pretended the lowblows hurt. You'd think Joe castrated him right there in the ring the way he reacted to nothing. Other than that, THE MOST BORING fight in Joe's career. Who seriously would want to see that **** again?

Hopkins put on a masterclass, according to some of his fans. I didn't see it, and I doubt too many purists enjoyed that abomination

Wait a minute.A SD in Wales not in Vegas would have required a rematch.Hopkins lost in his backyard.
