So Wilder will be the lineal champion when he wins in a few weeks?

That's what it ALWAYS meant. The man who beat the man.

Boxing isn't a team sport where a new champ is crowned every year. And then they start from scratch again the next year.

You become champ by beating the champ. Fury beat the champ. If Wilder beats Fury, he's the champ.

I'm not confused about anything! By the looks of your posts, you are one of the people I was referring to, a blatant Wilder fanboy on a mission to twist the facts to suit your view and pick a fight with anyone who disagrees with you.

It is one thing beating 'the man who beat the man' if there was only one title to start with (or two/three which were unified). But where someone with that status retires/ moves up then what else apart from unifying all of the recognised belts ala Usyk gives someone the right to call themselves a lineal champion?

    No sh*t

Again, Sherlock, what gives someone the right to call themselves a 'reigning lineal champion' in the first place? Other than ending all doubts by unifying all recognised belts.

    .

Recognised by who? Like you said, there are dozens of bodies and boxing publications the world over. So which one of them gets to decide that the two fighters fighting are in fact the 'two recognized top fighters'?

Easy to twist to mean whatever you want it to mean. Seriously bud, the whole concept is a joke. I judge my fighters by what they do in the ring, not by ridiculous imaginary titles (and not JUST by real ones either). If you want to think that beating a guy who has not had a serious fight in 3 years whilst ballooning to 25 stone and drinking and sniffing himself to the verge of oblivion is some kind of special accomplishment, more power to you.

Actually, Vitali was #1 and Chris Byrd (who'd beaten Vitali) was #2 and Corrie Sanders was #3.

Fury has no belts, none, he won't be carrying any into the ring.

I accept your arguments could be made and perfectly legitimately, though the easy counter argument would be who TF gets to arbitrarily decide that Vitali, Sanders then Wlad and Povetkin were #1 and #2 fighters respectively. Which is why the whole thing is, in my view, such a nonsense.

    Yes, you clearly are.

The Lineal title has been around since John L. Sullivan. In the last 140 years or so, it's been pretty easy to follow because the Lineage at heavyweight has only been broken THREE times (by Tunney, Marciano and Lewis).

It's not brain surgery. If you beat the champ, you're the champ.

You don't have to be a fanboy of anyone to follow that.

Something tells me if Joshua was the one who had the chance to knock off Fury in a couple weeks, the LINEAGE of who the real heavyweight champion was would be CRYSTAL CLEAR.

The only people who DON'T seem to get it are the people who insist Joshua is the champ, even though he picked all his belts after their were stripped from Fury by executives in a boardroom.

    That isn't how it's done.

Muhammad Ali didn't carry any belts into the ring with him against Joe Frazier in 1971, either.

    No difference.

In the case of Povetkin and Wlad, it wasn’t arbitrary. There was nobody else who was even close.

The whole concept isn't a joke. It's been pretty standard practice and easy to follow for 140 years.

The only people who think it's a joke seem to be the guys who just started following boxing a few years ago and it doesn't suit their "ANTHONY JOSHUA IS AWESOME" mindset.

Tyson Fury won the world title in the ring. And he hasn't lost yet. The person who beats Tyson Fury will be the next Lineal Champ.

You just have to follow ONE guy. Fury is the champ. See how easy that is?

And when Fury loses, the guy who beats him will be the champ? Because that guy beat the reigning champ, Fury.

    Got it?

It's not who wins FOUR BELTS, or whatever the hell you thought it meant.

The lineal heavyweight championship of the world is the only one that matters & is clearly above all other forms of heavyweight title.

That's why this fight with Fury is so important to Wilder. If he loses, he's just another meaningless alphabet champ. If he goes lineal, he's in the history books forever as a legitimate ruler of the known universe.

"Going lineal" in the heavyweight division is professional boxing's equivalent of extracting excalibur from the stone. Only the rightful king of the heavyweight division can do it.

Where is the lineal champion's belt, people may ask? When you're lineal heavyweight champion, you don't need one. Your trousers stay up by themselves.

Jesus wept! I guess I maybe ought to remember the old mantra about dragging you down and beating you with experience!

Fine, let's just all decide arbitrarily that one guy is the champ because it suits our argument that a win over a coke-addled shell of that fighter somehow means something.

    What an arrant nonsense!!!!

By establishing a new lineage after Lennox retired.

By putting together an overall body of work that at some point everyone recognised him as the legitimate ruler of the heavyweight division.

Would have been a lot quicker if the two Klitschko's fought each other, but they didn't.

The quickest way for a new lineage to be formed after the retirement of an existing lineal champ is for #1 to fight #2.

Until that happens, there's no new lineage formed.

In Klitschko's case, at some point he was clearly #1 & had beaten #2.

No one DECIDED ARBITRARILY Tyson Fury was the world champ. He won the world title in the ring from the reigning world champ.

Good Lord. Follow a sport for a while before you attempt to insult someone. Or try to pry your skull out of Anthony Joshua's rectum and come up for air.

Nothing I've said is NEW. Becoming the champ by beating the champ isn't a crazy new idea people came up with for this fight.

Being "arbitrary" is a sanctioning body stripping recognition from a guy (Tyson Fury) 30 days after he won the title because he didn't agree to fight Czar Glasnov fast enough.

There's nothing arbitrary at all about beating THE champ in the ring to become THE champ yourself.

Look up LINEAL CHAMPS online. They're all there. It's really easy to follow. Nobody's trying to "trick" anyone here.

Study up. Or bury your head back up Anthony's bum. Your choice.

Although I'm sure the air is better out here.

I've got to go. (I feel like I've spent the last hour trying make a dog watch TV.)
