So Williams will be locked out for at least a year.

With Margarito fighting Cintron again, and the winner to fight Cotto in the summer. Likely whoever wins that will fight a tune up stay busy fight in the winter and then try and snag Mayweather or DLH.

I think alot of these guys know Williams is just squatting at 147. And he probably won't be at 147 but another year or two. At 6'2" 160lbs+ he really ought to be a jr.middleweight or middleweight.

Do you think it's justified to avoid Williams at this point?

Holding the WBO bauble makes him avoidable as nobody has to fight him. If he's serious about staying in the division he should give it up & get a mandatory for one of the other three & force them to fight him.

Schaefer said Mosley could fight Williams in May. That would be nice. No one could avoid Williams anymore if he can beat Shane because he would become a money fighter.

Maybe he should go after Mosley. If anybody's crazy enough to take him on, it's Sugar Shane. OR, if none of the top WW's will fight him, he could go to 154 and go after Forrest or Spinks.

Mosley won't fight Williams. Frankly I'd be very surprised by that as Mosley wanted nothing to do with Margarito back then either.

I couldn't see Judah doing it either because he's apparently allergic to big legitimate welters.

I like Williams in all honesty , but he has to start to show signs of being a very special talent to live up to the kind of hype that he is getting.. That fight he had v Pakau was horrible, many more of those will just hurt his rep..

He doesnt need to be locked out, he should go for Mosley, Judah, Mayorga even Vernon Forrest, just to keep his name in the mix, welterweight is stacked, he doesnt need Cotto to make his money.

Everyone has off nights though. Even the best.

If anything they will avoid Williams for the same reason they avoided Margarito. Guys like Judah, Mayweather, DLH, Mosley, aren't interested in giving unknown guys a shot. And that quite frankly is pathetic. The above names are in all honesty, what is wrong with boxing.

I will say however that Williams is squatting at welter. And for that reason I think many of these guys will just hang it out and wait. At the very worst, they get a Williams that is seriously drained. He's got maybe 2 years if that before this starts to happen. If he stays at welter he risks being beaten by fatigue. If he doesn't, well, then it answers what many of us have assumed since he met Margarito.

Well the likes of Judah and Mosley and Mayorga dont have too many options I would have thought a shot at another world belt, would suit them down to the ground...

I Think A Mosley Fight Would Be A Good Look For Him! If He Can Put
Mosleys Name On His Resume Of Fighters He's Defeated.
If He Beats Mosley The Public Would Definatly Take Interest .

Well he had to at that point. Remember Forrest was not seen as a real threat to Mosley in that first fight. (7-1 underdog).

The truth on guys like Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito is that they ARE the best welterweights in the world. Even if that is based on how big they are. But guys with the names won't fight them because they don't wanna risk losing to an unknown name. It's market truth that when a name fighter gets beat by an unknown fighter, that name fighter's stock plummets.

When people look back on the Margarito-Williams fight they will see that the two best welterweights in the world fought in the summer of 2007. Williams for his part will be known as a middleweight who spent a couple years at welterweight. Just the same how guys like Jones and DLH abused lower weights before moving up to a natural weight.

That's why I said I'm not surprised by Mosley fighting Mayorga. It's name or nothing with these guys and they are BAD for the sport of boxing. No question about it.

Logically if Williams wants a guy who is willing to go, he should call up Joshua Clottey after he disposes of Quintana. It's about the only thing he has going for him at this point. Sadly enough, he has the WBO curse now, and he will see what Margarito went through for years.

Margarito losing that belt might have been the best thing to have ever happened to him, cause now he's getting the big fights.
