Twitter/Facebook etc have became a great and powerful tool in many ways, fighters can self promote, attract sponsors, they and their coaches can give fans glimpses of what goes on in the gym, and fans can interact with their hero's. Promoters announce fights, venues, tickets etc. The flip side had been highlighted this weekend but goes on all the time Davies is the latest Patel/Broner who has talked to much and fell short when it mattered. You have fighters arguing like school children on a regular basis. And worst of the worst trolls abusing fighters openly calling them cowards/quitters etc when the truth is they themselves would melt long before the ringwalk and would pass out if said fighters ever recognised them on the street. Double edged sword
He's now on Twitter claiming he's been receiving racial abuse yet when asked to produce evidence of any he refuses. The guy is absolutely pathetic pulling the race card because he got his Arse handed to him. How anyone can like that bell end is completely beyond me.
Without social media, boxing wouldn't be where it is now. Casual Hype originates from social media. Boxing wouldn't last with just hardcores.
I was at the fight myself mate and heard nothing of the sort. Doesn't mean you couldnt get the odd dickhead which is absolutely disgraceful I agree. It was Twitter abuse he was referring to along with that tool fearon. If he has been racially abused online it would simply require him to report it to to the authorities and the person would be charged. We will see how many this happens to. My prediction is 0.
You have to remember that social media is life for the younger kids....its such a big part of building a boxer I almost cant remember the days before the twitter call outs
From a marketing point of view it's crucial. I only really have an interest when a boxer runs their account themselves though and it isn't some copy/paste job from their promoter. Always got time to see Billy Joe Saunders wrestle with basic spelling.
social media is essential for boxing, hence why it is booming right now. First of all the casuals get interested in an event when they see clips of press conference arguments and stuff. For Example the Haye Bellew press conference was being shared all over my timeline by people who i know don't follow boxing and being tweeted about. People can interact with all the boxers and promoters like eddie hearn are always answering questions from fans on twitter. and for the more hardcore fans youtube channels like IFL TV and Fight hype get great backstage interviews with everyone involved which we wouldn't have seen several years ago.
yeah i agree, i have spoken to many of my favourite fighters via twitter. Its fun and allows you to see an insight into camp life. I'm 28 and always tell my seniors i dont know what they did before social media account and funny videos online. i mean i saw a goat/ram attacking a guy on a bicycle yesterday, it was funny as f*ck. there was then a tiwtter profile someone had made for the Ram. its amusing when you in one of those cba moods, how did the world cope before it. but social media could be the biggest tool for selling a fighter and ppv these days. Its great for the sport.
