    Round 8

Mayorga tries his hand at a bit of a shoulder roll defense, with Walker coming forward and trying to work his jab like a featherduster on Mayorga's chin. Mayorga lands a couple of hard rights that see him taking command momentarily, but he gets right back on the defensive for some reason and allows Walker to lead. They exchange body shots from mid-range. Mayorga puts together a jab-uppercut combo and then jabs to the body while backing away. Walker gets him to the ropes and flurries on him. Mayorga tries to tie his arms up and Walker pulls free and tries to land some power punches on his way out. Mayorga starts pumping his fists into Walker's face as they trade furiously, with Mayorga's shots looking heavier.

    All even again.

Damnit, when I saw Mayorga.... he just looked old. Knew that if this Walker guy was at all decent that Mayorga would be having a long night here :-( Come on Mayorga, you can pull this off.

    Round 9

Walker is hurt!!! He shells up and backs into the ropes after Mayorga's 1st flurry. Mayorga calmly swoops in and clobbers him to the ground with a long sequence of smashing downward punches as Walker wobbles behind his tight guard. The referee doesn't apply a count and instead warns Mayorga for something and gives Walker time to recover. They resume action and Mayorga picks right up where he left off, completely battering Walker who starts to slump on the ropes and is saved by the referee.

Mayorga is a 10/1 favorite in this fight.

I didn't like that stoppage, what do you think IB??

That doesn't mean he was on his way to a stoppage, and tell me what exactly happened during the knockdown.

El Matador is lucky. If he hadn't pulled that round out of his ass he very well could have been several minutes removed from a loss or draw.

Mayorga looked bad tonight. He fought down the competition, of course, and he still has some power, but it's hard to see him going anywhere at this point.

That whole thing was weird. Walker looked in more trouble the first time he went down. He was in trouble both times - it's like all of a sudden when Mayorga put together punches in bunches his power really bothered Walker? Even though he'd caught him clean a few times throughout the first 8 and not dissuaded him from coming forward?

Did Mayorga lost a point or he was just warned?? I think he lost a point, thanks anyway.

Hes been done for some while, the Mosley fight was his 'not as good as I once was, but good once (not quite) as I ever was' type fight, his last hurrah as shades of what made him a world class fighter appeared, but I expect this to be the norm from Mayorga here on out. He looks old, and with his lifestyle and hard years, in and out of the ring, I would like to see Mayorga just retire.

Glad he got the win tonight... was paranoid he would lose this one.

    WAR MAYORGA
