He was a top notch amateur.. He started to slack off when he got to the pros, he had pretty much anything you wanted in a boxer, he just lacked the final 85% (dedication).
I am aware of Solis's amateur pedigree, AND???????? Solis hasn't applied himself AT ALL in the pros. Are you aware of Solis's **** poor performances against Vitali, Larsen and Airich? So far, we haven't seen a Solis thats a world beater, and I doubt that will change. Btw. Guys that Solis beat in the Amateurs (Haye, Pulev) would beat the crap out of him today, and thats a fact.
Solis is a shining example that talent is only 10% of the equation. And hard work, dedication, training and discipline are the remaining 90%.
Solis could fight 4-5 more times FAT AND UNMOTIVATED against mediocre competition, just barely doing enough to win and there would still be idiots on this forum hyping him up. Unbelievable....
Solis - Looks like **** at the heigher weights. Helenius - Looks like **** and got a gift against Chisora Chagaev - Got knocked out at the top and never made it back Povetkink - Almost got his head ripped off by a mediocre CW Arreola - Got completely schooled at the top and has yet to make it back there. They are all credible but due to lack of dicipline they could not cut it at the top. There is a reason why class jawed Wladimir and old ass Vitaly are at the top. They give everything they have and are focused on doing anything possible outside of the ring, to win inside the ring.
Exactly. People focus on Wlad's "glass jaw" or Vitali's "roboticness" and they forget that these shortcomings pale in comparison to the amount of work, dedication and professionalism both of the brothers put into their career. Their work ethic and degree of professionalism is hard to match for any HW in history.
His punches had no affect at all on Larsen and he was badly rocked by some Foreman like clubbing shots in round 4. C class display.
Can't believe what I read when guys defend what Solis has become with statements that make Larsen out to be a decent boxer. The fight was a sad sight to say the least. I saw a guy that has thrown away what he once had and what looked to be all desire to keep boxing. No shame on Larsen as he did what could be expected and maybe more given that he is one of the worst fighters I've ever seen technically speaking. One of the worst. Solis looks done with fighting. Doubt that we will see much more of him in the future.
I wouldn't say that they are a disgrace to the medal at all. They were both good amateurs. No disgrace at all imo as they proved themselves at the time. The Larsen fight was truly sad to see though, even worse than the fiasco against Klitschko. A disgrace perhaps if you will, when comparing Solis of today to what he was and what he could have been.
Maybe Solis simply isn't made to be a heavyweight, when he was a cruiserweight he seemed from another planet, his fight with Haye has been a TOTAL war, amazingly exciting, maybe his body simply cannot afford the demand of oxygen of such an high mass, and/or his chin cannot hold HW POWER.... At the 10th round, he went to Larsen to congratulate to him and his team, thinking it was over!! That's how much he was hurted....
I agree with that, Solis is a rather smallish heavyweight. Shouldn't be carrying all that weight on him. He is a very skilled fighter, but can you honestly see him defeating the Klitchko's. Even at optimum fighting weight, say 220lbs. He just doesn't have the power. Same reason why guys like Chambers, Povetkin, and Boystov will never win a title while Wlad's around.
Yes, and when the K2 will be gone, there will be other superheavyweights around, and so on... There will never, never be another HW champion under the 6 foots, imo. Probably not even under 6'2, 6'3.
