I wouldn't call Solis undeserving. He's beaten some decent opposition --Burnett, Barrett, Drumond, Sidon, Welliver. No massive names but he's certainly done more to earn the shot then any recent Klit opponent that wasn't a mandatory.

Maybe people overestimate Solis but in this landscape there aren't many HW contenders to get excited about. Even if Solis destroys Austin it won't impress because people don't rate Austin.

As long as Solis comes in under 250 against Klitschko it should be an interesting fight. Solis seems to hit pretty hard and if he has enough mobility he might pressure Vitali effectively.

The fact is that Savon, ( like 99% of all Cuban amateurs ) also won Gold at an early age, 99% of all Cuban amateurs win their first Gold between the ages of 18 to 22 years old but since there is no pro sports in Cuba then they have to stay as amateurs for the rest of their lives. Then of course, they start beating up young kids ( but that's not their fault really ), and you have to look at when they won Gold when they were young as they were fighting fare and square against fighters their own age.

Most of the Olympic Gold medal winners have succeeded at the pros, it's the minority that have failed. And the ones who have failed are because of indiscipline and lack of dedication. Anyone boxer that triumphed as an amateur with hard work and dedication will repeat the same results in the pros, that is of course if the fighter has a " God given " solid chin and also punching power because that's the #1 ingredient to go a long way as a pro! Example: Yan Barthelemy, great amateur but had a weak Chin and no KO power for the pros. That's why he never was successful.

True. Solis main problem has been his weight and dedication, well not exactly dedication, you see food is his main problem. I read in another site that from a guy who has trained in the same gym as Solis and he said, " man, Solis is fat but that's because he loves eating, but don't let that fool you because I see Solis train every day 8 hours a day and never gets tired, he has incredible energy "!

So, Solis is a very very talented athlete. Man, if he would just come down to 230lbs ... No doubt, best HV on the planet. Still at 250 to 255lbs, he will be World Champ, I have a better nickname for him, instead of La sombra " the shadow " I would call him " The Cuban Tank ". :good

GE, some ppl here will never give credit to the Cuban fighters, they don't know the hardship that the Cuban athletes endure, just to b here, most of them leave their family behind, knowing that they will never b with them again, on top of that they don't the language and the cultural shock is tremendous, every other athlete competing in the USA, can comeback to their family and friends once the event is over, it doesn't matter the discipline, baseball, basketball etc.. Not the Cubans, but as more of us defect, they will have more support and will b easier for them to adjust.

Totally true Garfios. Estoy de acuerdo con todo tu post. Que tu crees, Solis puede con Vitaly? Yo creo que si, pero quiero ver primero como luce contra Austin. :good

Styles make a fight...i dont know how Solis will break into Vitali defences due to his superior size...but if someone out there has the skills to put the brothers K to the test, that;s Odlanier Solis.
just dont like to hear people talking like he already beat Austin(who he should easily beat)...hoping Solis will be the first cuban HW champ!

Solis is a talented and skilled boxer, their is no denying that. He can do things that very few heavyweights at the moment can do. But his weight is an issue and unless he can get back into tip top shape he won't realise his full potential.

The more svelte Solis that beat Haye in the amateurs looked dangerous for anyone. This overweight, slower, plodding version of Solis looks vulnerable to the style of the Klitscko's.

At least Solis is going in the right direction with losing 15lbs. Aprende Arreola! That just shows he takes his job very seriously even though he may not like it much. Looking forward to Solis taking on a top 4 HW soon.
