Well, your post about JL Gonzalez shows that #1, you obviously didn't know Gonzalez like we in Miami did, and #2 you tought that he was in better shape as a pro and that's totally wrong!!!

Everyone knew here in Miami that Gonzalez didn't had a pro trainer, he trained himself! In Gonzalez's first 20 pro fights he was ridiculously overweight, ( around 260-270lbs, he fought in Cuba between 215-220lbs, he was just a shadow of his former self in the amateurs ), so Gonzalez as a pro was a totally undisciplined and crazy boxer. The one and only time that he really got in shape was to fight Bowe as he came in really ripped, but what happened with him is that he actually never got the opportunity as a pro to have a good trainer ( or even a normal trainer as he didn't have one ) and for him to adapt to the pros.

You don't or didn't know that, but now you know! :-(

you missed my point...Gamboa Express made a ridiculous statement that if you can beat someone in the amateurs, then you can beat them in the pros.... and i said no way in hell Tillman was gonna beat Tyson at any stage as a pro....no matter what game plan he followed......

and i was wrong tillman , the gold medalist did not win a world title, he was hammered by evander holyfield....he did win a NABF crown.... :happy
so my theory remains true, olympics and medals are good to have, but dont mean **** in the pros.... everyone starts off at zero wins...

You have to train and evolve, if you beat a fighter convincibly in the amateurs, you can repeat that in the pros, if you get a good trainer and learn the craft in the professional ranks, Gonzalez was an idiot that didn't get or didn't want good advice, he was a wasted of talent, he got half a million bonus and started partying like it was no tomorrow, I guess that is what he want it out of life.

Well good points Garfios. Here is another one for many ofyou, I knew a person who knew JL Gonzalez from Cuba and he told me that Gonzalez was a little ******ed, come to think of it he didn't act like a normal person.

Gonzalez was very successful as an amateur for a couple of reasons. #1- He was trained and guided by the Cuban legend "Alcides Sagarra", #2- In the amateurs he was in great physical shape, " weighed no more than 225 pounds, #3- He had no choice but to train hard to keep up with the extremely demanding Cuban training regimen.

When he defected? Then it was totally the opposite. #1, he started with an unknown mediocre trainer and later didn't even had one, all he had was people in his corner to help him out. #2- He was 30-40 pounds overweight and #3, took the easy party lifestyle and didn't dedicate himself to pro boxing.

I am 100% sure about this, " 100% of all Cuban fighters are way better while in Cuba in the very strict Cuban amateur system than when they defect and become pros ". In that, I bet anything. :good

they will b learning fron one another, the more they defect, the better they will get in the pro, better support system, more known ppl, and last but not the least, they will b competing against each other, if Gamboa won a belt, i'm sure rigondeaux, lara, solis etc.. will want one, i c a better and more discipline crop, than years past.
