Round 6- Nagano again on the front foot and eats another counter right, and another...Nagano lands but then misses a follow up, lovely jab-come-hook from Kosaka. Kosaka ending with his jab. Not much of a fight but intriguing. This one will be close, 3-2-1 either way, maybe a draw I did like a lot of what Kosaka did but he lacks the power to fight like this as he goes up the ranks. Nagano has a swollen right eye.
Kosaka gets the decision, no argument there, but he REALLY needs to think about mixing things up in the future. The kid really does have potential but...there is a lot of work to be done
The main "under-card" bout now, Shuya Masaki (3-0, 2) v Vergil Puton (15-6, 7) Masaki is tipped as a Japanese star in the making at 130 or 135. VERY much a touted prospect. Puton is a ranked Filipino who has been in with a variety of regional opponents. Puton is going up in weight for this
Shuya Masaki (3-0, 2) v Vergil Puton (15-6, 7) 1-Masaki showing Puton respect early, there looks to be a division, if not 2, between them. Puton brings the action early. VERY little from Masaki in the opening minute. Masaki getting his jab going now, Puton happy to come in and eats an uppercutt, very patient from the bigger man who is seeing what Puton has before committing too much himself. Body shot from Puton, and one back from Masaki, Masaki finding some spring in his feet and looks to be wanting to get some rounds at the moment.
2-Puton trudging forward and although he has success he's not making Masaki uncomfortable. Masaki with a lovely counter to the body, Puton continues with the pressure and eats a counter uppercutt, and another body shot from Masaki, Puton isn't backing off and is out working Masaki in the pocket now, Puton takes a solid body shot and scarcely flinches, ...but is dropped by a counter right upstairs. He gets up instantly and smiles, genuine flash knockdown. Puton is putting up a great attempt but still looks like Masaki is fighting well within himself whilst Puton is giving his all.
3-More continued pressure from Puton for 90 seconds, Masaki turns it around and backs up Puton, Masaki now letting his hands go a bit more frequently and Puton is being more intelligent with his attacks. Body shot from Masaki seemed to hurt Puton for a second, Puton back on the front foot but does end the round realising Masaki has a lot left in the tank. Think this ends in 5 or 6, scheduled for 8 though
4-Puton continuing to try and force the fight but Masaki is starting to let combinations go and is taking a lot on the gloves. Trading body shots up close, spiteful left to the body from Masaki, Puton backed on to the ropes but Masaki not making him pay. Best round so far in terms of 2 way action. Puton tiring, Masaki trying things out. A good learning experience.
5-Masaki on the front foot to start the round, some spiteful body shots early. Puton back in Masaki's face and they trade body shots. Both warned to keep their heads out of the action, Masaki with a lovely burst and seems to have just moved up a gear, Puton backing off, nice flurry from the Filipino but his work rate has dropped-body shots and high output taken their toll. Puton head down and swinging wild hooks.
6-Puton looks like he has had a good rest and comes out swinging, Masaki however looks like he is on the red bull and very lively. Puton catches Masaki hard with a right up top and the prospect gets on the back foot to recover, Puton can't make him pay, Masaki takes 1-2, the two men trade and Puton ends up taking the bigger shots but is continuing to have notable success himself, Puton is really dragging Masaki into some deep water here, hard body shot from Masaki has Puton backing up for air. Gotta say this is close, Masaki fighting like an idiot though.
7-Masaki starting faster here and Puton answers, we have a ****ing war breaking out, the action suddenly drops, both looking a little weary, Masaki backing Puton up with a stiff jab but no follow up, Puton eats a big right hand, but again now follow up. Hard body shot from Masaki, and another, but once again he lets the momentum slip. Stinging right up top from Masaki, and a hard body shot, Puton hurt but holds. Think we started to get a glimpse of how good Masaki is...but why hold back this long? And why not ****ing follow up a good shot!
8-Puton starting fast and Masaki needing to answer, they again get into an up close battle, 2 minutes left. Left to the body hurts Puton, Puton looks tired, the two trade, Masaki with another "bodeeee" shot, Masaki looking for the kill, 30 seconds left, Puton fighting back, 20 seconds left, Puton out on his feet...3-2-1 final bell. Tell you what, Puton put of a great fight. Think he has lost it by a round or two...but. Masaki gets the win...lets than impressive outing in some ways. A good test in others. Would have liked to have seen him fight his fight more often though
