I think it's just that when some people (including pro judges) see one guy who's sort of wildly aggressive the way Vera is and another guy who's trying to be very defensively slick like Mora, they just assume that they're supposed to be overly generous to the latter or else they'll come across as "not getting the finer points of boxing".

In reality, Mora isn't Willie Pep...and Vera isn't exactly Jorge Castro.

Vera in the 22 rounds they've gone together has landed lots of leather on Mora by swarming the **** out of him and not letting him get away with any of his spoiling nonsense. In this particular instance, in this h2h matchup, blind aggression works and trumps slickness. Vera has Mora's number.

    Round 12

Vera throws a big hook coming forward and Mora ducks down into his armpit. Mora dances back, rubberbands his back off the ropes and comes at Vera to tie up. Lots of side to side turning by Mora, dropping his head out of the way as Vera comes slashing in with wild shots. Mora throws a right hand lead and then ducks back out of the way of Vera's jabs. Vera keeps pressing in with jabs and rights to the body. Mora circles to the right, ducks, moves in and elbows Vera in the stomach, holds, and runs to his left. Mora holds his arms up in the air to the crowd. :-(

    119-109 Vera

    Claudia Torres is interviewing Vera.

He says that Mora came to his house, and is tough as hell...

Mora interrupts his victory interview, telling him that Vera never really landed anything on him.

Vera walks away in disgust and Mora whines to Claudia about how he got robbed.

What a ****, after Vera had been giving a rather classy interview and not gloating, and actually giving Mora credit.

    Thank god!
114-114 score scared the crap out of me.
Not sure how the hell anyone saw it going the other way... especially Vera's own trainer... crazy.

I think Shields was approaching it from the perspective that Vera "had to knock him out to get a draw", even at home, know what I mean?

After all, in their first meeting I had it 98-92 to Vera (and most people had him winning clearly) but one judge somehow cooked up 96-94 to Mora...

For some reason Mora gets rewarded frequently for his style, while Vera's seemingly fan- and judge-friendly style of high-volume aggression tends to bite him in the ass where people see him missing a dozen punches far off the mark and neglect the fact that he also landed half a dozen square on the button.
