    Round 1

Benavidez jabs and moves in and out, staying tall and keeping his chin out of harm's way. Loya tries to slice in with hooks to the body, hunkering down low and springing forward off the balls of his feet. BIG overhand left by Loya tumbling forward and Benavidez counter hooks him to the mat. Apparently ruled a slip? Loya keeps jumping inside, determined, but getting stunned in midair by stiff Benavidez jabs. Big hooking attack by Loya leaping in but Benavidez sidesteps. Nice jabs by Benavidez. Right hand by Benavidez atop the head. Big uppercut to the body by Loya, dragged halfway across the ring like a heavy ball-and-chain before landing. Right to the back of the head by Benavidez.

    10-9 Benavidez

    Round 2

Benavidez jabs and swats with a hook as Loya comes diving in with rights to the body. Double jab by Loya, slapped down and away by the left palm of Benavidez. Loya rushes into a jab. Right hand to the body by Loya diving in with his head down, and he gets hooked across the back of the head. Sweeping hook by Benavidez puts Loya through the bottom and middle rope, but again Tony Weeks rules no knockdown. As in the first round, it was a flash knockdown that had 90% to do with Loya's own actions taking him off balance, but they were both knockdowns. Big right hand by Benavidez, buckles Loya's knees!! 1-2's to the face!! Loya hangs in there and battles back, face puffing up in several places. Loya hangs outside and looks to load up on big right hands jumping in, aiming high. Jabs to the belt line by Loya. Benavidez uses a slick fade move to dodge a right hand and counters while still leaned back above the waist.

    10-9 Benavidez

    Round 3

Benavidez jabs and puts out right hands as Loya weighs his options, more cautious on the outside. Chopping right hand to the face by Benavidez when Loya gambles on jumping in. Jabs to the face by Benavidez as Loya comes slicing in with hooks to the body. Triple pecking jab thrown into the air by Loya coming forward, a pretext for a big soaring overhand right that Benavidez clocks and easily turns into a miss. Hard counter right by Benavidez after leaning back out of Loya's way.

    30-27 Benavidez
