Loya lands a jab chasing after Benavidez but walks into a right hand, left hook combo a moment later. Double right hand to the body by Loya, mopped in. Benavidez slides his feet back and gets separation to drop right hands on the back of Loya's head. Loya winds up and whips a right to the body. Benavidez keeps working him over and begins to land a heap of straight power punches and FINALLY Tony Weeks steps in and calls a halt with Loya getting punished on the ropes.

TKO4!!

 

Jose Morales vs. Saul Rodriguez, 4 rounds @ featherweight

 

Apparently this was supposed to have been part of last night's boxing card on ESPN2 at this same venue (also featuring a Magdaleno brother in a televised bout). Boxrec still has it listed as happening yesterday but with no result. :nut It probably just got moved from last night's card to tonight's, and Boxrec hasn't figured it out yet.

Round 1

Morales is swinging wide haymakers from his ass, and Rodriguez is checking him with counter hooks and rights while darting in and out. Agile feet on Rodriguez. Not blindingly fast hands, but a great deal quicker than Morales. Nice power combo by Rodriguez late in the round.

10-9 Rodriguez

 

Round 2

Rodriguez pushes Morales back with right hands, while dropping his head out of the way of Morales' wide shots. BIG right uppercut to the gut charging in by Rodriguez. Morales answers back with a spirited flurry, pumping his fists in and putting Rodriguez in a corner briefly. Rodriguez walks him down and threatens with his jab. Morales stays off the ropes with a big hook and looping right from the hip. Big shots loaded up by Morales, all blocked. Rodriguez comes threshing in with both hands and they tie up. Russell Mora calls a break. Left hook around the guard by Rodriguez, but he's unable to land the follow-up when doubling it before Morales can tilt his arm in the way.

Round 3

Sloppy clinch after Morales ducks a 1-2. Rodriguez follows Morales around the ring and waves a hook in his face, baiting him into an exchange. Morales bites - and gets KTFO BY A LEFT HOOK!! One punch kayo, out cold!!!


KO3!!

 

It's cool; I know better. :good (though I've still done that drunk a few times and kicked myself )

 

On his side, arm trapped under him, convulsing and everything. :-(

 

Morales is up, seems OK.
