So in hindsight, with both López & Chanez having showed up just to play the ugly spoiler role, the highlight of the card was Alvarado's destruction of game but dead-average old club fighter Strode...but that's bittersweet. Alvarado looked worryingly stiff and one-dimensional, though he's still putting oomph in his punches. This isn't just a retirement lap, he seems hell bent on getting in with top players again. Pretty much anyone top 15 at welter ****s him up, badly.

I have this unpleasant mental image of Broner standing over a crumpled heap where Mile High Mike stood moments before, taunting him. Guy's just classless enough to cherry pick him, beat him to a pulp and then brag about it like he did anything special.

Conlan says he is 2½ years away from a title shot, and wants to keep improving. He says the likes of Chanez offer nothing to learn from and he seems to be chomping at the bit for stiffer challenges.

Frankly, had I discovered that Canal 13 was live streaming the Nicaraguan card on their website just a bit sooner I would've jumped over to do a live RBR of Alvarado vs. Jiménez instead of plugging through Conlan vs. Chanez on tape-delayed coverage by UniMás, having already peeped the result on BR.
