Esquiva Falcão vs. Josue Obando, 8 rounds @ super middleweight

He also has 4" of height and 4½" of reach on Falcão..

 

Round 1

Falcão is leaning to his left, pressuring with straight & scything lefts on the body and pecking high with the southpaw up-jab. Obando is giving him room, backing up and unfurling a drawbridge left jab into Falcão's guard. Falcão is dipping down with his head tilted leftward, getting under Obando's straights to gain purchase inside. Solid 1-2 by Obando off the ropes. Falcão is shoveling the left into the ribs repeatedly while Obando just retreats with his jab fluttering and missing over Falcão's head.

Round 2

Falcão is slamming Obando with left uppercuts on the body, driving him into the corner repeatedly. Obando tries brushing a jab and long sling-blade right at Falcão but just grazes while stumbling on the backfoot, clearly affected by the powerful and relentless left uppercut attack of Falcão. Obanda spending lots of time on the ropes and in the corner.

Round 3

Falcão is now giving the Obando jab no respect, taking it full on either temple while encroaching to land his lefts on the body. Obando is cut by the eye from the Falcão jab and line-drive 1-2. Obando has started to windmill his right arm behind his back and badminton-serving it like a shuttlecock toward Falcão - never more than lightly grazing with it, but making some incidental contact as Falcão bears down on him throwing combos low to high.

Round 4

Falcão is building a right hook into his repertoire, swiping high with it while coming up on his toes, headhunting, missing the much taller man as Obando leans back. Falcão is making up for his misses with enough body shots and stiff, aggressive jabs on the face to still be comfortably outpointing the less accurate, slower, and increasingly gun shy Mexican.

Round 5

Falcão is slapping Obando across the face with right jab/hooks and drilling his belly with lefts, placing him in the corner where he sweeps big high-arcing roundhouse lefts at him. Obando reacts to a few of the lefts that clip him on the chin but is able to roll with most, using his height and large scapular ridge to make Falcão's shots slide and deflect before impacting him hard, if at all. Obando offensively has been reduced to just a few light jabs rolled out in retreat, however.

Round 6

Falcão is pumping his right jab at Obando, herding him into the corner, and slamming double sledgehammer lefts into his hip and face, changing elevation depending on where Obando's long folded-up arms roam instinctively on defensive auto-pilot. Falcão is just manhandling Obando now, drilling left hand leads straight into his skull while driving forward, constantly in Obando's chest, attacking from directly beneath him with explosive jumps upward. Obando tries swatting him away with short right uppers and loose left hooks but Falcão just battles through and pounds him on the chin with more heavy lefts. Obando now laboring to breathe, hands down, lobbing preemptive jabs from too far away as he flees.
