Round 4

Espinoza is landing the left, as both jab and hook. His right isn't quite finding a home as he zip-lines it in from all the way outside. Zatarain is trying to counter with high hooks as he stumbles back, now showing his mouth piece as he labors to escape. Hard jab by Espinoza. Tie up. Zatarain catches a jab in the crook of his right elbow with a hooking motion and lands his own counter hook but doesn't slow Espinoza. Hard rights crashing through the guard by Espinoza, and an uppercut. Zatarain throws a 1-2 but is really forcing it, throwing arm punches as his base starts to look unstable. They trade hooks, each getting their head slapped back. Espinoza digs a hook to the body. Trading until the end.

Poor Izzy. He looks otherwise healthy (and seems happy commentating) but that scar tissue around his eyes just breaks your heart. Not even the Buddy Holly glasses can hide how bad it is.

 

Angel Osuna vs. Raul Rodriguez - 6 rounds @ light middleweight

 

Round 1

Osuna takes a long spidery step out and drops a sinuous right hand to the body. Rodriguez allows himself to be positioned by the ropes, and Osuna starts to use him for target practice. Rodriguez braves a couple of steps at a time off the ropes but is quickly pelted by long and hurtful blows. The reach and power of Osuna are just killing Rodriguez. He is wearing his agony on his face, visibly wincing every time Osuna hits him (which is whenever Rodriguez is close enough to be hit). Rodriguez starts trying to grab, tossing his arms around the lanky midsection of Osuna. He isn't able to get a firm grip and is pushed back into a corner. Osuna works him over with a vicious 1-2 and some nasty uppercuts. Osuna is standing just far enough away to not smother himself, but is breathing right down Rodriguez's neck and really smacking him around.

10-9 Osuna, almost a knockdown-free 10-8.

 

Oh ****, Osuna has three losses out of eight starts? :huh He seems decent. Like a Mexican, poor man's Paul Williams.

 

Round 2

Osuna is cracking Rodriguez with hard right hands and left hooks. Rodriguez got through one long lead right of his own through Osuna's shots but is again getting bullied across the ring. Rodriguez is gushing blood from a few fissures on his face. Rodriguez gamely comes forward to meet Osuna's challenge and is threshed with hard right hands. Now Osuna goes to the body as he pits Rodriguez against the turnbuckle again. Vicious stuff landing before Rodriguez can extricate himself with a pitch forward and grab. Now Rodriguez stands his ground and throws the hardest combo he can muster!

20-18 Osuna

 

Round 3

Rodriguez is really trying, to his credit. He's stepping right past Osuna's jab and putting his hands up near Osuna's face. He just isn't touching him. Osuna is getting a bit overexcited and shooting past the mark. Rodriguez is backed up and takes a few jabs but avoids the power. Long heat-seeking hook by Osuna. They exchange with Rodriguez standing in close and Osuna lands a straight right. Another. Rodriguez is pushed to the ropes, before taking sidelong steps to get away. Osuna cracks him with a hard right to the head, doubling Rodriguez over (but in turn making him a more difficult target as the extremely tall Osuna has to reach down to aim at him).

Round 4

Osuna backs Rodriguez immediately into a corner with a simple medley of jabs and uppercuts. Rodriguez just gets bombed but takes it like a champ until one ENORMOUS right cross puts him on the seat of his trunks.

ALL OVER.

 

Rodriguez has a swollen bloody mess of a face and was helped back down to a sitting position by the referee as soon as he started trying to stand. He seems to be alert and responsive, though.
