Ugh, I know, seeing him lose to de Leon sucked, this isn't helping him at all either, I hope he can recover.

I like this ring announcer. Does anyone know his name? He does a lot of the Spanish TV cards. It isn't Lupe Contreras. He's better, IMO. He's a 30-something or 40-something guy who kind of looks like Bruno Kirby when Bruno Kirby has a mustache...but less fat...and more Hispanic...

    Anyway...

40-36 por ganador para decision unanime...Roman Morales. HE HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE. :deal

BE, I know it sucks for Escalante who always gives his all in there...but...come on. Don't begrudge this Perez kid.

You'd be more happy for him than sad for Escalante, if you saw the look on his face!!

A wee babe on Christmas morning, in a Norman Rockwell painting.

    :p

I don't know who this Bruno Kirby guy is, but you're actually saying he looks nothing like him anyway

Joe > Lupe, as far as Latin boxing emcees go...IMHO. He doesn't try to get all superficially super-suave like Contreras. He's just a consummate pro with a good voice. The Latino Buffer. :good

Again, my description was awful. My sincerest apologies. :patsch Nothing like Bruno Kirby. :rofl

I like Contreras style. Abit cheesy, but he pumps up the crowd. Seen him live acouple of times. Y AHORA DAMAS Y CABALLEROS. VEREMOS, QUIEN ES EL MAS MACHO!!! (Drunken crowd roars)

I don't exactly dislike him, but he's like ring-announcer fast food...like McDonald's. Tasty while you're enjoying it, but then you groan about it later and hate yourself. Jimmy Lennon Jr. is like Wendy's - a little classier. Then you have Joe Martinez. He's just a solid three-star sit-down restaurant...like what the Olive Garden tries to be. Michael Buffer of course is the filet mignon at the most expensive steakhouse in the world. :deal

OK, I got a little overboard elated on Perez's behalf earlier...but feel a more somber moment ought to be taken here.

It really looks like the "constant FOTY candidate" era is over for Antonio.

'08 vs. Jose Angel Beranza (not the FOTY, but top 10)
'09 vs. Cornelius Lock (not FOTY, but top 5)
'10 vs. Miguel Roman (not FOTY, but top 3)

    Whew! :happy

He needs to seriously reexamine his career at this point. He is about to turn 26 and is a veteran of several wars, and clearly out of ammunition. If he hasn't squandered his earnings (or been badly screwed by Golden Boy) he should really cut and run before he enters into a spiral of getting badly hurt for a living and potentially shortening the good years of his life. He can't hack it at the top level, nor at the level below the top. As much as the 24 year old Perez impressed me in those three minutes, he is nowhere close to being a top-flight talent yet. This is a bad sign for Mr. Escalante.

If this is really it, let me be the first to wish him well in his post-boxing endeavors and thank him for some of the classic melees he brought us. :good

Figure I come in here and pay my respects to Escalante. Tony didn't look like himself in there, I still question again him moving up in weight. He looked slower in there, power didn't have as much pop, and when he got hit by the bigger opponent he felt it...not just the KO blow, but even the body shots early in the round as well. I really haven't felt this bad since Hatton lost to Pacquiao, it defo does suck and I hope Tony has a good hard look at himself and really puts in the work in the gym, because now GBP and everybody is going to view Tony just as an opponent now. He's still on the level of a contender, but he defo is fading into journeyman level now.....I really think if Tony wants to continue he needs to really work and get down to 122. That is where he looked his best and really looked very sharp. At 126, his sharpness, quickness, and power just wasn't there and I'm even going back to the Roman, and Ruiz fights. Then here against Perez at 130 he just didn't look good at all.
