Solo Boxeo Tecate: Argenis Mendez vs. Martin Honorio II RBR

Round 1

Mendez puts his jab out into Honorio's forehead, and gets clinched as Honorio comes firing in with his own jab. Honorio tries to plant the jab on Mendez's chin stubbornly, holding it out fully extended and flicking his wrist. Mendez steps left and lands his jab, then rolls back and drops his head to avoid a 1-1-2 from Honorio. Body shots by Honorio and a clinch. Mendez jabs and uses a little forearm to thrust Honorio back a step. Honorio throws a wide right hand and gets COUNTERED HARD WITH AN UPPERCUT, snapping his head around violently. Mendez steps back, jabs, and uses a bit of shoulder roll defense as Honorio comes forward. FLUSH jab by Mendez, bang on the chin. Honorio comes rushing in, throwing hard punches, and countered with a VERY crisp right. Again.

Round 2

Mendez lands some stiff jabs from outside. Honorio comes in with a jab and a long right hand. Mendez rolls under his shots, just getting grazed, and counters back. Clinch. Honorio is caught in a headlock. Mendez jabs out past a Honorio jab, deflecting it. A bit of ugliness on the inside, heads getting dangerously close together, and the ref issues a two-way warning. Honorio comes in with a right to the body and has his gob rocked by a HUGE counter 1-2. Both the jab and the cross cause him to shiver all the way down to his ankles. Mendez is easily sliding back out of the way of Honorio's lunging jabs and countering. OHH, Honorio manages to slap a right hand down on him. Honorio gets a very stern warning for leading with his head. Margarito-like combinations from Honorio coming forward, but missing badly.

Yeah, even if Honorio weren't quite shopworn I'd probably pick Mendez every time they rematched.

 

Round 3

Mendez is doing solid work with his jab, circling around away from Honorio's power right. Honorio manages to touch down with it and they tie up. Mendez backs up to a corner and Honorio gets bold, sending a few shots downstairs. Mendez stands and turns as Honorio roams around him. Clinch. Mendez looks ready to hook, left arm twitching. He lets it loose as Honorio comes rushing in, sure enough!! Honorio is BADLY ROCKED, might be all over!! Mendez moves in for the kill, more hooks. Honorio bounces off the ropes and flops into him, tying up. Gum shield out for Mendez. Oops! Honorio just went to the wrong corner after the ref sent him to a neutral one. Haha, veteran trick, stalling. Time in. Mendez comes at him cautiously, wary of that right hand. Wild shots by Honorio, missing. BIG COUNTER uppercut by Mendez.

Round 4

Mendez is using slick defense, leaning back and letting Honorio dust his arms in the corners, and countering when there's distance with flush hooks. Solid left jab by Mendez, circling right. Honorio seems confused what to do, and wanders into the path of a nasty 1-2 while waving his own jab softly. Left hook to the hip by Honorio, very soft, throwing arm punches and flopping in. Ref warns him again for leading with his head. Wild attack down low by Honorio, Mendez skipping back and countering.
