    Round 1

Santiago comes out wildly attacking. Shumenov backs up and holds his left arm out as a plank to keep distance. Shumenov is looking to roll out a jab to greet the still wildly rushing Santiago. Shumenov dips in for a right to the body but comes up an inch shy. Shumenov tries to throw a 1-2 but Santiago jumps atop him, enveloping him like a cloak. Shumenov tries to get naked, but Santiago is like one of those pesky bras that girls wear with the little snag loops. Santiago is throwing wild straight flurries in between clinches. Shumenov backs up and shuffles to the side to stay clear of both the wild shots and the grabbing, but is unable to get off much more than a few jabs.

    10-9 Shumenov

Pretty close round. Could have gone either way. I'll give it to Shumenov for the jabs to the body I guess.

    10-9 Shumenov.

Until recently I always watched these fights a day or two later on youtube I guess I didn't know they did that.

Sounds like mostly female voices in the "Beibut" chant.

    Round 2

Santiago is still very reckless, throwing hard digs at the body but betraying his intentions enough for Shumenov to simply pull the chair out from under him and disappear from view as Santiago lunges in fists first. Shumenov tries to counter but Santiago's inexorable march inside is too persistent for Shumenov to have time to set anything up. A lot of inner elbow and the underside of Shumenov's forearms clank against Santiago's skull. Santiago turns his stance sideways and tries to crab-jab his way in. Failure. Shumenov jabs to the chest and moves laterally. Straight right lead by Shumenov before quickly moving around Santiago and holding his gloves out defensively.

    20-18 Shumenov

Beibut is "outboxing" him with the little work he's doing, but he's acting a bit odd. It's like he's afraid to get hit, when Shumenov has always been willing to take punches and Santiago doesn't have major pop. :huh

Neither fighter doing much here. 20-18 Shumenov.

I don't understand the deal with Shumenov. Why is he a title holder? Why the hype? He is nothing special at all.

    Round 3

Shumenov lands a nice double jab and works the right hand as he backs away. Santiago keeps coming forward and getting lightly countered. Shumenov is moving around defensively, only getting clipped on the nose with the pinky edge of Santiago's glove on a few jabs. Nice combo by Shumenov, brings the crowd momentarily to life before dying back down. Santiago keeps advancing, and walks onto a 1-2. Shumenov doesn't follow up on it. Clinch. Right to the chest by Shumenov, and again he moves outside. Shumenov disengaging. Santiago lunges and misses. Now a right hand by Shumenov coming forward...but just for a minute before getting back into his defensive posture.

    30-27 Shumenov

I like that, when Santiago wants to touch gloves, Shumenov doesn't do it... but other than that, he's behaving very strangely. Reminds me a little of when Berto would go overboard with trying new approaches in the ring.

Just hit him with some chloroform and swap him out for Santiago between rounds!

    Awesome title challenger.
