Barthelemy is jabbing and floating to his left, inexorably drawn to the inside like a magnet even though Rodriguez is finding a home for his jabs straight into the body and up into the mouth. Barthelemy keeps letting his hands go, missing quite a lot but touching Rodriguez on the body and side of the head.

Round 7

Barthelemy is cleaving in tight against Rodriguez as he's been for several rounds now, throwing short volleys of underhanded blows to the body and then leaning down on him. Rodriguez is patiently waiting for spots to jab Barthelemy in the face as soon as there's a little separation. Barthelemy tries moving his head with his arms down but still gets touched up. Barthelemy is showing off, but just making himself look like a clown. He is winning these rounds on workrate alone, not demonstrating a higher level of class that you'd expect from a well-regarded Cuban with 200 amateur bouts.

Rances has already gotten as lazy as his brother Yan, at about the same point in his pro development. :-(

 

Round 8

Barthelemy is dropping his chest on Rodriguez's head, and throwing combos to the body. A few borderline low. Rodriguez tries to shrug him off and land a jab, but Barthelemy catches him asleep at the wheel with a flush left hook. Barthelemy jumps in and flails at him, going for the finish. Very sloppy. Rodriguez is able to lean inside. Rodriguez has a bloody right bottom eyelid. Barthelemy whacks him a few more times before the final bell.

One of the least impressive shutouts by an unbeaten prospect you'll ever see.

I have to admit, by the end I was rooting for Rodriguez (who showed grit at least) to land something lucky and score a knockout.
