    Round 10

Baldomir jabs, jab, jabs and throws a cross. He seems to have his balance fully regained from those middle rounds where he seemed unsure and clumsy with his feet. He's just shuffling back and forth, keeping Funes in front of him and punching, punching, punching. Funes is trying to leave his fists parachuting down while crab-walking around Baldomir but the old man is rotating right with him and giving as he gets, forcing Funes to cover up. Funes eats a right hand and misses a pair of his own. They slug it out down the stretch, both tired and slow in delivery and landing and getting hit. Good stuff.

    96-94 Carlos Baldomir

    98-92 Funes
    97-93 Baldomir
    98-92 Baldomir

The announcer just did the WORST JOB EVER announcing a split decision (in Spanish).

He basically said it like this:

"Judge So-N-So scored it noventa-ocho for Funes and noventa-dos for Baldomir. Ganador...Funes!

Judge SittingBitch scored it noventa-siete for Baldomir and noventa-tres for Funes. Ganador...Baldomir.

Judge Tiebreaker scored it noventa-ocho for Baldomir and noventa-dos for Funes.

    Ganador...

    ...Baldomir!"

Is that not a case insulting the intelligence of the crowd? Or does the average citizen of San Juan really not have a grasp on 8 being a greater number than 2?

To be fair, the guy looks a lot like Weng Weng. Life's a bit too hard to learn the finer points of building suspense.

Welterweights go six rounds next: Luis Zarate vs. Oscar Medina

    Round 1

Medina goes to the same barber as Funes...Rattail Jimmy's. Zarate goes to the same barber as Jason Biggs.

Medina throws a bit more boldly, aiming high. Zarate ducks the shots and collapses forward into Medina, and they clinch. When Zarate throws, it's mostly bowling-ball punches down low which don't land and result in clinches. When Zarate tries a high 1-2 it backs Medina into the ropes but misses and...yeah...results in a clinch.

    Round 2

Their heads come together as both start flailing their way into a near-clinch, and the ref breaks them and waves a hand at their foreheads. He gets a bit more involved over the next minute, breaking up clinches every few seconds. Their bodies seem magnetically charged as they start gravitating toward another clinch every time the ref drops his hands and steps out from between them. Medina is throwing Mickey Rourke style cat-punches with his right from outside, leaving his chin hanging in the air and coming off his feet in the process but Zarate isn't anxious to mix it up and misses some counter opportunities. The last minute is basically a big long clinch.

    Round 3

They get right down to business...clinching business...and business is good. Medina is working his free hand a bit more on the inside. Zarate is tagged with a long right hand after a break and stumbles forward looking to clinch and is clocked a little more before they do in fact tie up. Medina is making it rough on the inside now, even with one arm trapped. Zarate is ducking and coming up for air as Medina sends a mess of punches over his back. Up and down he goes. Zarate's nose is bloody. Medina continues to miss badly with most of his mid-range punches but lands well in the clinches and when he's able to get Zarate at the very tip of his long right hand.

    Round 4

Medina drops his left hand and pops his shoulder out while circling on the outside, with the body language of a boxer but no jab forthcoming. Instead he's falling in with crazy lead uppercuts. A couple actually land. Zarate seems uncertain with a long-range fight, and throws a couple of jabs that fall well short. Medina walks in short tight circles around Zarate and gets brushed with a few light punches but lands a hard right before clinching. Medina takes a low blow but doesn't bother taking a rest. Zarate shoeshines his way into a clinch, then jerks backward and starts trying to land a 1-2 with some actual snap on it. Medina blocks it.

    Round 5

Zarate is actually snapping his jab now, and changing levels with it. It still mostly lands on the hip or shoulder of Medina. Zarate is trying to take over as the clear aggressor now, doing most of the punching between clinches. Medina has a cut on the bridge of his nose. Medina is warned for using his forearm on the inside. They both try to land as they come together but their arms tangle up in a sloppy fencing match. Zarate is hurt by a Medina counter lead right and tries to hug him close but Medina keeps backing up and whacking him. Zarate looks to be in trouble and never quite locks on the clinch but survives.

    Round 6

Medina throws lead rights from way too far. He is backing Zarate up and trying to trap him into a corner. Zarate beats it and flicks a few jabs in his wake. Medina is leading with every kind of power punch while advancing, including lots of uppercuts. He gets close and Zarate clinches. Zarate is backed to the ropes and runs to the opposite set. Medina puts his hands all over him. Zarate is getting lit up even though Medina's offense is a bit wild and sloppy. Zarate's best defense is honestly his chin, since he isn't picking the shots off or slipping them and doesn't have the speed to keep away from his assailant. Right hands are really looking to have an effect now on the nose of Zarate, whose nose has opened back up. Medina keeps leading with that right and forcing Zarate to clinch for dear life. Uppercuts and hooks on the inside try to shake Zarate free but he clings until the bell rings.

    Weng Weng strikes again!! :patsch

He just went through all the score totals (and announced Medina the "ganador" after each) and then dropped the bomb that the ganador by decision unanime is...

    MEDINA!
