Livingston, for those who don't know, is the cousin of Andre "SOG" Ward.

He is 8-1-1 (4), coming off his only career loss. His opponent is 9-2-1 (3).

    Round 1

Livingston steps forward and Mendez doubles his jab to keep him away. Livingston turns himself askew to let Mendez's jabs fly by his head while drilling through with his own. Mendez spins Livingston to the ropes and begins to open up with overhands, Livingston trying to slip them. Jab to the body by Mendez, missing as Livingston pulls back. High jab by Livingston coming forward, catching a Mendez 1-2 on the forearm. Jab by Livingston, and a clinch as Mendez chops down at him and misses again. Double jab to the gloves by Mendez. Livingston misses a hook and Mendez a 1-2 as both nervously reach in at each other from outside. Mendez pushes Livingston into a corner and works the body. BIG left hook to the jaw by Livingston, and a looping right to the other side. Another right whipped across the head by Livingston, who is still trapped in the corner. Mendez opens up with a four straight punch combo, but gets nailed by a hard counter left hook.

    Round 3

Livingston works his way in with powerful but poorly aimed uppercuts, and gets countered by the sharp jabs and right hands of Mendez. Livingston keeps pressing forward, trying to use reflex-based defense while taking the lead and missing shots against a counter puncher. Livingston winds up going headfirst between the top and middle ropes as his momentum carries him forward past Mendez and he's popped with a counter right from behind. Mendez begins to really carve Livingston up with straight counters, scoring at an alarmingly high rate. Livingston's defense isn't what he'd like to think it is, but he's showing a heck of a chin.

    10-9 Mendez

    29-28 Mendez

    Round 4

Livingston holds his left arm out stiffly, pushing more than jabbing, and Mendez cracks him with a HARD counter 1-2. Livingston presses in against him and Mendez backs up to line up more straight counters. Jab and overhand right by Mendez as Livingston keeps coming forward. Livingston gets in a jab to the chin, having collected himself from being hurt early. Livingston is cocking the right hand over the top and starting to throw it but pulling it each time, perhaps wary of counters and his paltry success with power punches thus far. He sticks with the jab coming forward, as Mendez dips his knees and hooks the body. A few nice exchanges, with Mendez scoring the harder and cleaner shots with his right hand but Livingston getting licks in. BIG RIGHT HAND BY MENDEZ!! Livingston is having the daylights rocked out of him and has to flop against Mendez and hold. Livingston jabs up at him.

    10-9 Mendez

    39-37 Mendez

    Round 5

Mendez is toying with Livingston on the outside, using his jab to great effect. Livingston tries to push out with his left arm extended straight but Mendez muscles past it and hammers Livingston against the ropes. Mendez isn't worried about Livingston's power anymore and is staying close, jabbing him in the face. Livingston paws a few jabs into Mendez's face while backing up. Livingston steps forward and lands a right hand as both fire at the same time. Double jab, right cross by Mendez, driving Livingston into the ropes again. Another solid 1-2 by Mendez. Jabs by Mendez. Livingston leaps off the ropes with a right hand and connects but then holds on to rest. Big right hands and left hooks by Livingston, just slugging away up close. Mendez lands a 1-2 as THE LIGHTS GO OUT in the arena. (except for those directly above the ring itself) They finish the round in the semi-dark.

Oh wait...the slow motion replay shows it may have been a low blow, and the commentators sound like they're treating it as though it may be controversial.

It is a few inches below the belt, but the problem here is that Livingston had his trunks hiked up way too high to begin with.

    Borderline, IMO. Tough call.

Either way, Livingston was in over his head against a higher class prospect. (and that isn't to say that I think the sky's the limit for Mendez or anything; he's just better than DonYil)
