The kid is doing horribly dealing with a frustrating style. As ineffective as aggression gets.

What have you seen him doing well?

Yeah, he'd slump forward into Acevedo like the dude was his bed. Then he'd "wake up" and throw a hard right hand.

    Round 6

Negron keeps coming forward jabbing and trying to toss his arms out wide to grab after inevitably missing his jabs. When he misses, Acevedo is taking a step back out of grabbing range and landing hard straight lefts...then grabbing on his own terms with a clutch around Negron's waist. They lean together and Negron tries to work the body but takes a left uppercut. They grind heads, chest to chest until the ref splits them. A long combo by Negron, landing nothing. Clinch. Broken up. Right jabs by Acevedo circles to the left. Left uppercut, and a clinch. Negron throws a sloppy 1-2, his right cross sailing over Acevedo's shoulder and inviting another clinch. Acevedo stands pat at mid-range and waits to pick Negron off with right jabs. Negron charges in and they clinch. Southpaw 1-2 by Acevedo. Negron is backed up to the ropes, wobbly. Acevedo punches the canvas, brimming with adrenaline and maybe thinking he did enough to get the nod (although it's unlikely he'll get a fair shake here if Negron is supposed to be "going places").

    59-55 Acevedo

Acevedo (who only has one knockout in his ten wins, against twelve losses and three draws) actually landed the harder shots from rounds 2-5.

Sometimes the record on paper doesn't tell the whole tale. :deal

I had it 58-56 Negron. The judges decision and yours are very legit though.

Some of the dirty tactics early in the bout reminded me of a fight earlier this year on one of the Spanish broadcasts. One fighter got spun around in a man-love type clinch and as they were separating, the guy in front delivered a quick heel kick between the legs right to the jewels. The audacity of the move was comical and appalling. IB, do you recall seeing that fight, and do you remember who it was?

    Round 1

They come together, briefly pressed together until Kuilan knocks Tapia down with a flurry but it was more of a push down with his upper arm. Correctly ruled a non-KD. Tapia tries to slap out combos with his left shooting out in quick jabbing motions and right whipping around from up top. Kuilan drives forward and just tries to maul him, missing his 1-2 and then just letting loose with wild shots up close. Sloppiness by Kuilan. Tapia scores a knockdown with body shots and short uppers to the face!! Kuilan is face-first on the mat!! He gets up and raises his arms overhead. Tapia gets on him with left hooks!!! Crushing hooks!! Kuilan's mouthpiece comes flying out! The towel is thrown in!! STOPPED!

    Tapia TKO1 Kuilan

    Keith "Machine Gun" Tapia.

    :think

Let's just hope he doesn't have some of the less favorable attributes of another quick-handed guy who used the nickname "machine gun" and braided his hair back...

Starling Cordero vs. Luis Delcet, 4 rounds @ peso gallo (bantam)

Boxrec says they are both making their debut.

Telefutura says Delcet already has two pro losses. Unreported/unverified bouts? :conf

    Round 1

Wow, this is some crazy fast windmilling ****.

Cordero comes in windmilling until he rams his head into the obstacle of Delcet's chest. Then Delcet windmills him back across the ring and presses him back into/through the ropes. Back and forth, and so on... Now Cordero abandons the pattern and starts to throw some overhand rights, straight rights, backhand rights, hooks to the body, hooks to the face. Delcet is shrinking back into a corner getting pummeled. Once it stopped being a windmill contest he was screwed. Waved off.

    Cordero TKO1 in his debut.
