(the 1-1 light welterweight Rafael "the lion" Marquez).

He's in against William Lorenzo in a 4 rounder.

Round 1

Straight lefts out of a non-stance by Lorenzo (he isn't orthodox or southpaw, just squared completely up and throwing his arms straight out like he's never boxed before). WILD can-opener left now by Lorenzo. Marquez just steps back and pops a distinct right jab. 1-2 by the lefty Marquez, looking much sharper. Left uppercut by Marquez thrown while stepping back and landing flush on the chin. Lorenzo lunges in wildly and misses as Marquez dances back and bounces off the ropes. Lorenzo tucks his head and pins his arms together in a vague semblance of a guard and tries to bash his way in with short straight jab-like shots with his left and right, and then some wide low-reaching body shots. Marquez is stepping back and countering everything with his gloved linguini strands.

Round 2

Lunges by Lorenzo, and a body slap as he takes a few forward jumps to catch Marquez up against the ropes. Marquez circles out and jabs with his left. now switched to orthodox with his right shoulder pointed behind him. Lorenzo throws a few high shots out of a near-crouch, and gets caught up on the bony web of Marquez's forearms. Slapping shots to the sides of the head by Marquez as he backs up the ropes with Lorenzo butting his head into his chest. A few of Lorenzo's high-reaching shots get through but Marquez is countering sharply straight down the middle with both hands backing up. Lorenzo puts up a high right "jab like thing" and hits glove. Slapping body shots by Lorenzo. Some soft straight shots by Lorenzo up top are blocked HARD right cross by Marquez, backing up. Now a looping right lands. Lorenzo getting creamed.

Round 3

Marquez is back to southpaw, pouring out right jabs as Lorenzo keeps chasing him down and trying to push out straight shots that don't reach or wide hooking shots that announce themselves far too early. Good 1-2 by Marquez. Lorenzo was slowed down for a moment. Lorenzo keeps stabbing in with his right, trying to come in low under the flight path of Marquez's arms. Marquez just keeps moving backward, unrolling his right jab into Lorenzo's face. Lorenzo leans up against him on the ropes and tees off but hits glove and armpit, nowhere legal. Marquez backs straight up and is clipped with the end of a heavily swung high-reaching right.

Lorenzo may as well go bananas for the KO this round.

 

Round 4

Marquez pumps the right jab and flies across the ring. Lorenzo tries to cut him off, and throws BIG looping lefts. Now a big wide right upper-hook type thing. Lorenzo slaps the body on his way in and tries to lean against Marquez on the ropes. High slapping shots by Lorenzo, smothering himself a bit and missing high and wide without much space to work. Marquez is backing up and slapping back at Lorenzo, but is getting caught more and more and tripping over his own feet at times. Lorenzo hits him with body shots as Marquez stumbles back into the ropes trying to find his counter punches. Marquez gets his focus back on footwork and drops his work rate to a slow sputter of right jabs. Lorenzo hacks away and grinds him back into the ropes with a few hops inside. Marquez tickles him under the chin with a few right jabs but Lorenzo rolls his head around to buck Marquez's glove away and keeps smashing his way in. Marquez lands more jabs, but Lorenzo bites down on his gumshield and charges through to land one more good shot upstairs.

Good effort at the end, but not a win-salvaging effort.
