WTF? For a second I thought Puga's corner was retiring him on his stool for some strange reason.

Talamontes was up and ready to go but the Puga corner was slow to finish their business and get out of the ring.

Round 4

Horrible hooks land flush on Talamontes' face. Puga is now stepping through and hitting him faster than Talamontes can run. Puga is doing all his work with the left, landing powerful jabs and those bone-jarring hooks as Talamontes just backs up and gets his head rocked to the side. The referee steps in to wave it off and Talamontes throws a ****ing tantrum!

Jonathan Chicas vs. Davis Kimara - 4 rounds @ "light welterweight" (Chicas, 3" shorter, came in two pounds above the limit...while Kimara was two pounds under)

In yet another installment of "Boxrec gets a record wrong", they have Kimara listed as debuting tonight (and have his first name as "David").

He is actually 4-2.

Chicas is correctly listed 2-0.

 

Round 1

Kimara rows with his jab, and throws a gangly overhand right that pulls him out of alignment. Chicas jabs to the body and pecks his way in with chopping left and right combos slivering a v-pattern at Kimara's face. Kimara tries to box outside behind his jab, but isn't snapping it and isn't landing it. Chicas touches him up with body shots pushing him back to the ropes. Big hooking combo low to high by Chicas. Kimara is already breathing heavily.

Round 2

Body shots out of the gate by Chicas. Kimara now flurries wildly, putting his head down and throwing windshield-wipers blind. Chicas blocks some jabs and spirals in on Kimara. Overhand right lands on Chicas' face but doesn't make an impression. He comes forward with abandon, plugging away with hard body shots. Kimara drapes against him to rest until a break is called. Kimara is back to the practice of crazy slapping flurries with his long arms rolled out. Chicas is willingly passing through the minefield of stray gloves to land his own hard, thudding, deliberately placed body shots.

Round 3

Chicas does a few front-knee lunges, waving his jab around but not yet releasing it as he waits on Kimara. Good inside work by Chicas as he steps past the wild loose right hands of Kimara and takes the frenzies slaps to his sides and back as piddling collateral damage so he can land hard left and right uppercut combos to the core of Kimara. Hard left upper-hook through the guard by Chicas as he pushes Kimara to the ropes, but misses his follow-up combo flung out a bit too lazily. Kimara is backed into a corner and Chicas tees off!!! Where is the referee?? Several straight shots to the face, now a dozen, now close to twenty (with some flush uppercuts mixed in)!!! There's the ref!

 

Yeah, it would have been nice to see Roman Morales. :conf They showed almost the entire card except his 4-rounder. With the ten minutes left after Chicas-Kimara, instead of showing it truncated for time constraints like they did with Puga-Talamontes they show a hype piece on Canelo Alvarez with an ODLH interview. For those who don't watch Solo Boxeo often, they do a hype piece on Canelo Alvarez with an ODLH interview every other week.

To be fair, Morales' opponent is 0-4. So it was a mismatch.

On the other hand, though - Raul Talamontes was 0-4 earlier tonight. Rudy Puga Jr. got to showcase his mismatch on TV...and it was his debut! (while ballyhooed amateur Morales is already 6-0)
