As if this wasn't shaping up to be a mismatch even before the tale of the tape...

 

Round 1

Blanco rips away with hard hooks to the body. Just hard shots, period. Reckless. Trying to gun Malfavon right out of there. Malfavon is scrappy, though - stands his ground and fights Blanco off. Blanco unloads a long (very, very long) jab for a while, but can't resist coming forward and blasting Malfavon back to the ropes with short curling power shots. Malfavon just hides in the storm shelter until Blanco slows down, and then Malfavon unleashes several hard hooks to the body. Malfavon came to fight!! Good long uppercuts by Blanco, to the head and body. nice 1-2 as well

10-9 Blanco

 

Alfonso Blanco is a lot like Paul Williams, except green...and Venezuelan...and not a southpaw.

In build, style, and mentality though...

 

Round 2

Several hard jabs coming forward by Blanco. Now vicious hooks to the body - all from long range, little the limited Malfavon can do about it. Blanco winds up giving away his height by punching himself in close and just shoulders Malfavon in the face, shoving him away. Malfavon is trying to land some big money shots during Blanco's resting periods and otherwise keep his grill safe. Blanco keeps punching himself right inside and shoving Malfavon back to start over from long range. Nasty body shots landing for Blanco. Malfavon is getting lit up. Right to the body, hard left hook to the chin. Blanco has no excuse to not end this. HARD body shots, all Malfavon can do is take 'em. 1-2 crashes through the gloves of Malfavon and bangs him atop the head. Malfavon tries a few wild swings when Blanco's hands are momentarily inert.

Round 3

Malfavon is immediately hurt by a body shot and looks for help from the referee while backing away and moaning, perhaps petitioning for a low blow call. He doesn't get it. Blanco walks him back and keeps letting his hands go. Definitely the Venezuelan Punisher. HARD body shots whipping home for Blanco. Malfavon is still shooting the gap and punching like crazy whenever Blanco stops. His attacks have very little effect, barely reaching Blanco and just sliding off his long gangly arms if they do. Blanco, on the other hand, is folding Malfavon up with body shots and rocking him even with blocked combos upstairs. Blanco smashes his way forward with some chest-level left hooks. Big shoeshine by Blanco as he gets Malfavon against the ropes. Malfavon just won't go away. Blanco paws with his jab to get Malfavon in the corner and starts to crack him with rights to the head and body.

Damn, Ricardo's tough.

 

Round 4

This might be the round where Blanco may finally be 100% serious about getting the knockout. He sustains an attack for about thirty seconds before petering out. His style is just go, go, go, go, go...and reeeeeeest. He gets fought off by a few wild shots from Malfavon. Blanco jabs him against the ropes and starts going down to the body. Uh-oh. Malfavon finally gets his low blow call. Malfavon takes a lot of time in his neutral corner to recover. Replay. OUCH. Yes, that was a hard left hook to the testes. They get back to work. Blanco keeps hooking to the body, dangerously close to the below...not worried about taking his first loss by DQ, apparently. Malfavon is carried to the ropes before pouncing with some short punches and leaning into Blanco. Malfavon is pretty spent now. Blanco keeps teeing off but can't crack the shell. Malfavon tries one more home run right hand and it sails harmlessly over Blanco's head as the tall man ducks off to one side. Blanco feints with an uppercut and then leaps inside to try and land a combo but the bell rings.

Shutout for Venezuela's answer to PW.

Malfavon is the epitome of underdog grit, though.

 

All three judges have 39-36 for Blanco.

Huh. I wonder what round they gave Malfavon. Hell, I was looking for one.
