On the non-televised undercard, Roberto Marroquin reportedly got a gift unanimous draw over Alejandro Rodriguez. :think

His luck has soured considerably after giving Rigondeaux a tough battle and then knocking out Escalante.

First was the upset loss to Daniel Diaz, then most of the rest of 2013 wasted negotiating a chance for redemption in a rematch that was scheduled but fell through at the last minute...and now here, from the sound of it, struggling badly with a 21-13 journeyman...

This is a test for Sanchez, although he passed his last one with straight As, and Mouton is at best the same level as Findley.

That was a legit shutout; Findley never won a round.

Mouton is another guy like Findley who is very tough with good enough power to occasionally throw a ****** wrench to gum up the works of an unready prospect's career, and who suffers a lot of questionable decisions on those occasions where he can't dismiss the judges.

If Sanchez gets by him, those will realistically be the best two W's on his resume even though a few others (ie Sam Miller, Porky Medina, and shot Richard Gutierrez) may 'look' better on paper.

    Round 1

Ramirez is baiting Perez, jabbing and then holding still on the outside to let Perez break through with his own jab. Perez gets frisky, leaning in and hooking off the jab, causing the skin around Ramirez's left eye to turn pink. Ramirez lets Perez get confident landing the push-through jab and some hooks on the sideburn, the right side of Ramirez's face growing quite red now. Ramirez decides enough is enough and begins timing Perez with counter hooks, following with the 1-2 vaulting in off the balls of his feet when Perez is stunned. BIG left hook by Ramirez and Perez is flipped over landing on his face and out.

    KO1!!

That was mean of Ramirez.

Let the poor 8-6 dude think he is bagging the 1st round from an Olympian, then seize that glory from him with a brutal KO1. :-(

If you're going to indulge him in a couple minutes' success, give him the full three minutes and the Pyrrhic 10-9 before taking him out in the 2nd. That way at least Perez would have something he could tell his grandchildren. "I won a round from Jose Ramirez before getting KTFO! :!:" means a lot more than "He let me out-jab him for about ninety seconds before he stopped playing and destroyed me..."

    Round 1

Ramirez is aggressive immediately, pushing Hernandez into the ropes with triple left hooks. Rights to the body by Ramirez as Hernandez tosses right hands over the top and sticks out jab and looping right combos from a high turtle shell. Exchanges forced by Ramirez moving in, with Hernandez slapping down at his gloves from overhead with his right hand and then stuffing a short 1-2 into Ramirez's gob. Ramirez is hooking his way inside and blasting with the right hand, making Hernandez flinch as it grazes his shoulder. Hernandez clinches. Double jab tapping the forearms by Ramirez, first down by the elbows and then up by the wrists before slamming in a right hand. Flurry by Hernandez to finish the round.

    10-9 Ramirez

Neither of these guys is really the 'house fighter', as neither is with Top Rank and both are Texans but from hometowns other than Laredo.

Hernandez has the better record, one closer to a 'prospect's', while Ramirez's more resembles a gatekeeper's...but you wouldn't know Ramirez was 'supposed to' lose by how the first played out.

    Round 2

Ramirez is advancing with his arms up caging his face, eating Hernandez's jabs while jabbing the body and stepping through with big uppercuts. Hernandez steps outside and lines Ramirez up with double jabs and clubs down on him with big right hands at mid-range. Ramirez tries a wide right haymaker stepping in. Left hooks and clubbing rights by Hernandez, catching Ramirez several times around the jaw. 1-2 bang on the clenched teeth by Hernandez, tipping Ramirez's head back and forcing him on the backfoot.

    10-9 Hernandez

    19-19

    Round 3

Ramirez is experimenting with power combos, selling out and going for broke coming forward as Hernandez counters with uppercuts and wide left hooks at his leisure with Ramirez telegraphing everything. Ramirez finds success with a drop-in straight right to the body and finishes with a left hook on the chin. Ramirez is backing Hernandez up! Hernandez sticks a jab out into Ramirez's trachea to stem the flow of offense. Ramirez keeps spamming in the right hand with the left hook behind it, scoring flush and eliciting whoops from the crowd and commentators. Hernandez ties up. Break. Hernandez shoves Ramirez onto the ropes and works him over with uppercuts on the chest. Left hooks and chopping rights on the face by Hernandez as Ramirez attemps to fight off the ropes, getting caught up in them, firing with his eyes closed as he repeatedly gets rocked. The ref is standing by. A few more power combos from Hernandez and the ref jumps in even though Ramirez is punching back despite being out on his feet.

    TKO3!

That was actually great officiating by Jon Schorle. He started to intervene when Hernandez first began opening up heavily on Ramirez, while Ramirez was starting to go limp against the ropes - but when Ramirez flurried back Schorle took a step back to evaluate and waited until the next time Ramirez looked defenseless without letting it go too long...basically giving the warrior every chance to punch himself back into the contest before it passed the point of unrealistic and just plain barbarous. :respect
