:deal Shame most threads will revolve around "Golovkin is a hype job", or something equally mundane.

This fight was momentous! That's my last superlative. Maybe. Probably not.

Actually, this was a WBC eliminator. So next up for Segura is either Sosa II or Yaegashi. (Sosa challenges Yaegashi on December 6th)

Marquez vs. Tamara in June was the WBO eliminator. So currently even after this loss Marquez is still the #2 contender for Juan Francisco Estrada and will become mandatory if Segura goes for the WBC instead. (Segura was the WBO #1 contender already heading in tonight)

So even though it was technically between the established WBO #1 and #2 contenders this match had absolutely nothing to do with the WBO or with Estrada.

Just watched on the Westcoast feed.... Holy **** balls!!!
These are the MF's that deserve 20 Mill a fight.

Would have been cool to see TM finish the fight on his feet but that KO was dramatic.
Everything & more than I expected... IMO "FOTY"

This fight had everything. I stopped trying to keep score around the 6th round and thought the fight was pretty even going into the 12th.......and then the KO :yep

Just finished watching the fight. It was magnificent. Fought at an insanely fast and featuring marked shifts of momentum not only from round to round, but often from minute to minute.

    FOTY, barring anything truly colossal..

Should it end up being Sosa vs. Segura II; it probably is a repeat of this past May. Segura has, in Sosa, found perhaps the equal of his own insane chin (Sosa has two stoppage losses neither of which subverts that: one at the hands of always dangerous Chango Vargas - who even well past his prime dealt Chocolatito Gonzalez his toughest victory prior to Estrada - barely a year into their respective careers while still green in the eighth and final round; the other a fluke resultant more from a Rodel Mayol headbutt than from Mayol's punches, where Mayol could've easily been disqualified instead) - and Sosa's hands are less heavy but he does pretty much everything better. Case of a # had.

As for Yaegashi - he was a beast at straw, proving himself elite with the upset of Porpramook and then battling until the end with Ioka (and deserving the nod on my card). So far he seems to have remained effective leapfrogging up in weight to fly, but the likes of Sosa and Segura constitute a step up from Igarashi and Blanquet.

Sosa vs. Segura II - close decision for Sosa again.

Yaegashi vs. Segura - wide decision for Yaegashi or Segura by late TKO if he can exploit a yet-undiscovered kink in Yaegashi's armor.

Sosa/ Segura was very close. I wouldn't mind seeing it again!

I remember Kyowa against Yaegashi, there's definitely a few kinks there!

:nono A few things on that:

    1. Eagle was in those days a top pound for pound entry on most lists. (usually just squeaking in at nine or ten, but still)
    2. Akira was ridiculously green to be challenging for a world title and if he were to have pulled it off would have gone down in the history books in extremely rare company.
    3. The knockdown came in the late 10th, off a perfect shot, on a tired and on the night grossly outmatched kid.
    4. Yaegashi has come a long way since then and seems rock steady with the climb up skipping over light fly.

Yaegashi may not have a Segura or Sosa level chin (not many do), but he does have one hell of a chin...and just as Sosa does everything a little better than Segura, he does everything a little better than both of them.

Oh, by the way - this RBR thread received a third as many replies, 151 fewer in all...and 1,334 fewer views (since it happened, two days ago) than Oleg Maskaev vs. Danny Williams this afternoon. :!:

That kind of tells you everything you need to know about most boxing fans.
