Solo Boxeo Tecate: Jessie Vargas vs. Walter Estrada RBR

Uh oh. Jessie weighed 2 pounds over the limit.

Maybe he should just stay up at welterweight.

 

Definitely more latter than former.

One to watch. Good entertainment. :yep Like now.

 

Round 1

Long ugly clinch, both twisting around violently. Estrada tries an uppercut and is sent reeling from a 1-2. Vargas reaches with hooks across the Tecate logo. Constant measured pressure by Vargas. Some slapping hook flurries to the back by Vargas as Estrada turns partially away. Nice sneaky left uppercut by Estrada as he wheels off the ropes. Vargas is hooking low and trying to clomp down with broom-handle rights. Estrada is moving and spoiling a bit, flicking right jabs as he turns Vargas. They both feint and pose. Vargas jabs to the body. Estrada dances away.

Round 2

They trade jabs; Estrada high and Vargas low. HARD left uppercuts to the body by Estrada. They start trading viciously as Vargas gets mad. Both hooking!!! Estrada slips, losing his footing and then regaining it. VARGAS CATCHES HIM OFF BALANCE WITH AN ENORMOUS LEFT HOOK AND LEAVES HIM PASSED OUT ON HIS BACK UNDER THE BOTTOM ROPE!!!!

Tough to say, for a few reasons.

Both have looked brilliant or shitty depending on the night.

For one thing, Vargas isn't getting more than a round or two out of his opponents lately to really show us what he's got.

Also, Vargas was very lucky to get the nod over crafty journeyman Cristian Favela. I thought Favela won (and so did most others on here).

He's building up a good ledger of wins, though - and quickly blowing out guys who don't really get quickly blown out often (or stopped, period).

As for Garcia, he has his beastly nights as against Mighty Mike and some lesser opposition - but then struggled against the shot and blown-up Nate Campbell. (it wasn't a robbery, but he allowed Nate to have way more success than he was supposed to have). Some also feel he got a gift over Theophane.

Both are real head scratchers. Either could win a belt...or maybe neither ever will. :huh

DeMark "Nuke" Scott vs. William "the Billy Goat" Bailey - 4 rounds @ cruiserweight

OK, Scott wins the nickname contest.

 

I mean...Billy Goat? Are you ****ing kidding me? That's a HORRIBLE ring name for a boxer. Hopefully he doesn't live up to it.

 

Round 1

HUGE size advantage for Scott. Bailey is pressuring fairly well, in light of that fact. Bailey marches in and pounds away with hooks from either side before jerking his hands back together to form a narrow steeple guard just in front of his face. Scott is stupidly allowing some of those hooks to get around his defenses while trotting away and dinging Bailey up with careful counters.

10-9 Scott but he needs to smarten up.
