First up - Jayson Velez vs. Jonathan Arias, 8 rounds @ featherweight.

Both have sixteen wins. Velez has twelve by KO and no losses. Arias has 9 by KO and four losses.

Both are wearing pink gloves (like Mayweather's pink gloves with his gladiator get-up). Is it breast cancer awareness month or something?

 

Round 1

Long jabs by the much taller Velez. Arias is swooping in low, tossing left hooks out from his peekaboo guard. Velez is landing the short counter hook well, bobbing up and down while maintaining his own high guard and keeping a watchful eye on Arias. HARD knee-buckling counter right by Velez. Arias calms down and is more patient in working his way in for the rest of the round. Lunging right by Arias misses.

Round 2

Velez waits patiently on the outside as Arias keeps charging in predictably with hooks to the body and overhand rights up top. Nice stinging counter 1-2 by Velez. Another. Suddenly Arias is able to turn things around with a big hook!! Arias backs a wobbly Velez up to the ropes with a hacking flurry. Velez is able to shimmy out of the way and guide Arias back out to open water, where he proceeds to counter his face off. NICE right hands by Velez. Lots of ducking and slick rolling inside by Velez. BRUTAL counter punches!! Arias is getting his head rocked and lolled about as he tries to land a desperate hook on the three inches taller but far more elusive Velez. Arrogantly telegraphed upper-hook from the hip by Velez, passes the air in front of Arias' face as he pulls away from it.

Round 3

Velez tries to work a right hand over the top from outside. Clinch. Left hooks running in by Velez. Arias is rocked! Left and right hooks now! Arias slinks to the ropes and braces himself against them, then pushes off as Velez keeps coming and dropping hooks down on him. Arias seems to regain his composure and starts to jab out, ducking down and watching Velez. BIG shot by Velez rocks Arias again. Arias stays composed, jabbing out until he is close enough to grab Velez around the waist. Velez slowly stalks, inching forward a little at a time. LONG hard right hand beans Arias across the head as he's circling against the ropes! Arias tries to work his way into a clinch but has his head turned sharply by a hook. He keeps trying to grasp hold of Velez and is FLOORED BY A LIGHTNING BOLT RIGHT HAND!!

Round 4

Velez plays patty-cake with his jab against Arias' gloves, ignoring the obstruction and just looping his right hand over the top to land on Arias' face. Arias backs up until the quicker feet of Velez force him to hold. Big uppercut from outside by Velez. Uppercuts and slapping overhands by Velez in equal turns. Velez jabs, pressuring and easily stepping back when Arias deigns to spring off the ropes with a warning shot. Velez is landing very well, knocking Arias' head around and making him hold or run pretty much throughout the round. Arias is knocked off balance by a hook and gets both arms wrapped around Velez, nearly pulling both of them horizontal. Wild left hook and right hand by Velez from outside, getting bold and sloppy. Arias backs up and jabs from too far out. Nice lead right by Velez catches Arias circling against the ropes. Clinch. Arias shoulders Velez back to the ropes and then retreats several steps. Velez chases with hooks.

Round 5

The bell rings. The men convene center ring. Jab by Velez. Jab to the body by Arias. BIG RIGHT HAND BY VELEZ!! ARIAS WAS ON HIS WAY DOWN AND A STIFF LEFT JAB CAUGHT HIM ON THE LIP WHILE FALLING!! BIG KNOCKDOWN!! Arias shoots upright but the ref waves it off.

WOW! That was maybe seven seconds into the round.

 

OK caught up. Now "live".

Main event!

Michael "The Artist" Perez vs. Tyrone "Fists of Fury" Harris

 

Round 1

Right jab by Harris. Perez catches it on his left forearm and keeps two-stepping toward him. Harris rolls back above the waist, swinging his right arm low at his side. Lots of chin-tucking and ducking below the waist by Harris, using that almost block-free defense. Perez relies on his guard as he presses in and pecks away at Harris with jabs and right hands. Nice right jab by Harris, caught Perez on the mouth. Flurry by Perez surging in, missing head shots but landing two hard left hooks to the body. Harris is flinching as he backs up and Perez pressures. Harris waves both arms out at his sides while circling. Perez lands a good 1-2 through the gloves. Perez ducks a right jab. Perez is close enough to be hitting Harris but isn't letting his hands go. Harris is just waving his arms at his sides and continuing to circle. Perez lands a jab to the face, and then a pair of hooks to the body as Harris runs off to the side.

Round 2

Long, playful right jabs by Harris as he dances around on his toes on an outside track, moving to his own right. Perez is landing some long, solid and hurtful body blows while Harris is clowning. Perez misses with a lunging right hand lead and then abandons a halfway thrown left hook to the body as he falls into a clinch. Harris seems oddly comfortable despite getting mostly outpointed, dancing around and landing a right jab here and there. HARRIS IS DUMPED INTO A PILE OF RUBBLE BY A HUGE LEFT HOOK TO THE BODY!!!!!!!!! He is on all fours, in agony. He somehow pushes himself up to his feet, and Perez comes right back to land ANOTHER brutal left hook to the body that literally sends Harris' legs flying out from beneath him!! Another count! He beats it again!!! ANOTHER LEFT HOOK TO THE BODY!!!!!!! DOWN AGAIN!!!!!! He stays down until eight, head bowed...BUT GETS UP!!! PEREZ HAMMERS HIM WITH BODY SHOTS!!!!

Harris is laughing and slapping Perez on the back. His words are inaudible but it's clear he's saying something to the effect of "Props man. You just pureed my insides. That corn pudding I had after weighing in last night? Yeah...if there was any chance of any little kernels coming out whole...forget about it... You can ****ing CRACK, kid!"

 

Very impressive knockout, really.

Harris has been knocked out a few times before, but never in such short order and never by almost exclusively body shots. (and the guys who did stop him are pretty big hitters themselves).

Perez keeps making a good name for himself. (for a prospect who's had virtually no English-language American TV time)
