    Round 1

Naugler starts fast with a jab and a looping overhand right. Periban composed for someone in his eighth fight, just lets Naugler fall short with the looping shot and then jabs at him. Naugler ducks a jab and right hand from Periban and Periban hits him in the exposed body while he's ducked down. Periban fires at the high guard of Naugler and moves his gloves. Naugler shells up in between short bursts of looping overhand rights. Periban whacks the body of Naugler around the beltline and the ref wags a finger at him, apparently thinking something strayed low. More body work from Periban, and some fast hookercuts and uppercuts splitting the guard of Naugler. Periban continues to wail on the gloves, forearms, and exposed parts of the head of Naugler. Periban touches gloves after the bell in case Naugler took any offense at perceived low blows.

    10-9 Periban

    Round 2

Naugler sticking with the "baseball-toss" overhand right. Periban bangs him with hooks and uppercuts, high and low. Naugler tries a wild right uppercut of his own, lunging forward with it. Periban dodges the incoming Naugler's wild offense, and easily counters him with a sequence of headshots. Right hands find a welcome home on Naugler's left temple, just over his guard. The rest of Periban's punches are aimed at the body of Naugler. Naugler eating a lot of fire on the way in, trying to jab at Periban and missing, eating some more shots. A wild left hook is short, and a right hand sails well over the head of Periban. Periban buries a hook in the body of Naugler and then shoeshines him off the backfoot as Naugler puts his head in Periban's chest.

    20-18 Periban

Absolutely, Leon was painting on a canvas at some points; if he had pop (or if it weren't a lightweight fighting a welterweight) he could have taken it out of the judges' hands. That is such bull**** that two of them only gave him four rounds.

    Round 3

Periban is slightly punched out, but still throwing the kitchen sink at Naugler; the shots just have a little less steam now but he's still scoring, mostly with headshots. Naugler too busy eating leather that he's failing to effectively block to mount an offense of his own. Periban goes to the body, whipping both arms above Naugler's beltline in sequence, and Naugler tries to counter high but misses. Naugler's mouthpiece is replaced after having fallen out. Naugler eats a jab, then two more. Then a right hand. Periban having a hard time missing now. Naugler hits Periban in the thigh while ducking down just at the bell.

    30-27 Periban

Do you have the station "Telefutura"? I'm not sure if it's simulcast on any websites (like the promoters').

    Round 4

Naugler gets a good right hand into the face of Periban, but the Mexican comes right back and punches straight through the guard of Naugler. Periban eats a pair of uppercuts from a suddenly busy Naugler and goes right back to laying the aggression on thick. Naugler goes between shelled up and moving his hands, able to land the right hand now that it's straightened up a bit. He also has several near misses when he throws it as an uppercut. Periban with a right hand low to the body and then flurries at the head of Naugler. Both men fighting at a medium pace now, taking turns punching instead of one leading and the other countering. Naugler eats a big right hand, and then a five punch follow up sequence right before the bell.

Naugler's best round but not a winner for him.

    Round 5

Periban comes out determined, punching nonstop for thirty seconds until Naugler stems the flow with an uppercut into the chin of Periban, who's bearing down on top of him. Periban blinks, his vision possibly affected, as Naugler hits him with another couple of rights. The ringside physician is called onto the apron to check a Naugler cut - he allows it to continue. Periban slowing down now, picking his shots and throwing with power. Hooks and right hands. An unanswered flurry of about a dozen punches to the gloves and top of Naugler's ducked head sees the ref jump in between them and wave it off. Periban is caught up in his momentum and punches both the ref and Naugler a couple more times by accident. Naugler screams "I'M OKAY!!!! I'M OKAY!!!" and confronts the ref incredulously.

This is the second stoppage loss for Naugler in 32 career fights (the first was back in November). The replay shows that he only ate two jabs and a short hook flush, and a couple of right hands glanced off his hairline, while the rest of that flurry had missed or hit glove.

    Periban improves to 8-0 (5)

Another 140lb meeting in a 6-round walkout bout.

    Ivan Cano vs. Adrian Quiroz.

    Round 1

Quiroz shows a nasty left hook, storing it up while Cano throws a lot of leather at him, and countering stingily. Cano digs to the body with both hands, with very high output. A long uppercut from Cano brushes the chin of Quiroz. Quiroz fights his way off the ropes and then backs Cano up with a triplet of right hands. Quiroz tries his own uppercut and misses just an inch from the face of Cano. They trade and Cano lands a couple of hard right hands; down goes Quiroz. He's up and ready to go at ocho, and in runs Cano with a sequence of punches punctuated by another hard right hand. Quiroz is knocked bodily into the ropes but not down - he is stopped anyway.

I recall hearing about Periban back during the buildup to the '08 Olympic games. He was supposed to be one of the more promising Mexican amateurs. Look forward to seeing more from him.
