Raul Carrillo vs. Joel Vargas now.

    Round 1

Carrillo comes in with right hand leads and telegraphed straight lefts. Vargas simply catches him with his open arms and sets his feet, then swings freely to the body of Carrillo.

    Round 2

Carrillo pushes forward recklessly, letting both hands go, punching mostly straight but not with good leverage, generating most of his power from the waist up. Vargas, for his part, has no interest in headhunting with Carrillo, and simply puts his head down and goes to work above the trunks of Carrillo. Vargas keeps his gloves held tightly in front of his face when not punching, and stands in front of Carrillo with his feet squared up. Vargas straightens up for a moment and eats a few power punches but lands a really nice counter hook to the head of the squatting Carrillo. Vargas snaps Carrillo's head up with an uppercut, then goes back to the body as Carrillo continues to rain down punches that don't phase Vargas. They both move their hands nonstop for the last twenty seconds, neither landing much but Vargas moving Carrillo back into a corner.

    Round 3

Carrillo slinging a 1-2 now, and taking advantage of the lack of return fire to also step into some upward hooking shots to the body. Vargas tries to mount a defensive offense but is getting snuffed by the relentless fistic action. Carrillo finally slows and Vargas pushes into him with his shoulder. They trade mitts with bad intentions, and Carrillo is muscled into a corner but soon punches his way out. Vargas is eating an incredible amount of clean punches, but Carrillo's lack of form keeps them from doing perhaps as much damage as they could (which is not to take away from the hell of a chin Vargas seems to have, to offset his horrible defense).

    Round 4

Vargas finally appears affected by the volume punching of Carrillo. Vargas desperately tries to raise his arms in an attempt to get in a few of his own, but Carrillo's fists just bounce off his face like a rubber ball. Finally, Vargas sinks to his knees. He looks to have his pride hurt more than anything and rises slowly, but Carrillo jumps on him with a right hand, left hook, right hand, and smashes him back down for the TKO4 victory.

    MUCHACHAS!

Brittany Cruz vs. Nohime Dennisson, 4x2" rounds.

    Round 1

Cruz throws a single jab or lead right at a time, backing away and trying to look like a slickster, holding her arms out and showboating, and even does a little rear-hand whirl. Dennisson pressures her, all business, throwing straight 1-2 combos high and low but unable to land flush on Cruz as she covers and slips.

    Round 2

Both dance for the first fifteen seconds. Dennisson tries to hammer Cruz against the ropes with a right hand but Cruz slides her way off them and turns Dennisson, both of them punching ferociously at close range. Cruz now lays off and walks herself into the ropes, only to launch herself off again when Dennisson closes on her. They start firing at point-blank, and resting their wrists on one another's shoulder blades to position each other for a big shot. You gotta love women wrestling.

    Round 3

Dennisson stop-and-go, a lot of false starts, retracted steps and head feints. Cruz is not trying to press the fight. Dennisson gets her back on the ropes and leans into them, then lurches forward punching. Cruz catches her and pushes her off, sticking in a shoulder roll style.

    Round 4

These bitches are now going at it like cats! Dennisson slips a Cruz jab and misses a right hand. Both step away from each other as they separate, and seem to take a mutual moment's rest. Cruz jabs and nearly gets grabbed by a plucky Dennisson. Cruz seems to want to coast and literally walks to the edge of the ring with her hands low. Dennisson walks over to her and tries to force her to trade. Cruz simply adopts the Mayweather shoulder roll and rides it out.

Unanimous decision goes to the slightly less cute one with the less obnoxious style: Nohime Dennisson. :good

I was afraid of this. His trainer wanted this fight and we promoted it. Vargas fights out of the Dodge City, Kansas gym and is promoted by Robert Gonzales and R&S Promotions. It was just too much too soon.

FYI (future reference): Solo Boxeo starts with the main event and then follows with the supporting card, in the same format as the UK's Friday Fight Nights on Sky Sports. Therefore, Lara was on right at midnight. Being that it was an incredibly quick fight, if you tuned in much past then you risked missing it. Y'all were warned in the first post that this RBR was on a delay, from a recording. :yep

As for Vargas - yeah, this was his 3rd pro fight? He might do better in a rematch down the line, as Carrillo basically benefited from his complete lack of defense more than anything. He looks very strong and went to the body well.

It was actually Joel's 4th fight. He is now 2-1-1 He is a damn good fighter when he wants to be. He has an extended amateur career. He just is being pushed too fast too soon in my opinion.

The altitude change between the flatlands of Kansas and the mountains of Colorado was a factor in Joel's performance. He was gassed early and he has never done this before in a fight. He was told to go the the mountains a week before the fight. Instead he was there only a couple days. Big mistake.
