Escalante is jabbing up at Villanueva and shuffling back with double steps and then spraying right hooks at him when Villanueva comes chopping in. Villanueva just can't lay a hand cleanly on the short and slippery southpaw, giving up his length and flailing his arms against him on the inside. Escalante holds, hits, then pushes off and backs up.

BIG RIGHT HANDS BY VILLANUEVA!! Backing Escalane up across the ring. Villanueva having a massive comeback round!! Escalante is holding and slapping the body but getting powered back into the corners and banged hard with left hooks and whipping rights to the head!! Villanueva has found his range and is teeing off from a couple of feet away, not letting Escalante off the ropes!! Escalante has nowhere to escape to, so he flurries forward into clinching territory. Villanueva won't let him hold on!! Banging away!!! Bruising his face up!!

Round 5

Villanueva comes in hooking and looping rights from the outside, pulling his arms back to form a high guard and leaning forward to bear down on Escalante. Intimidation tactics by Villanueva. HARD shots put Escalante back on the ropes! Uppercuts and hooks by Villanueva, sloppy but thrown with conviction and doing the job!! Escalante is trying to hold or seek shelter on the ropes, and can't consistently do either as the bigger man presses in on him and rains down hard shots!! BIG RIGHT HAND HURTS ESCALANTE!! BOUNCING OFF THE ROPES, HURT VERY BADLY!! Villanueva unloads on him!! Jerry Cantu takes a close look! Escalante bounces around, and survives the round!

Escalante has cojones to have hung in there, but he's probably not lasting much longer. Villanueva too big and determined.

 

Round 6

Escalante circles to his left, pushing his right jab and swinging long left uppercuts out at the taller man as he advances with mean intentions. Escalante motions to the ref, complaining of a rabbit punch as Villanueva flings his long arms at him. Villanueva is throwing rights to the body and hooks to the head, catching Escalante with everything and backing him up. All Escalante can do is bounce backwward and minimize the impact. BIG LEFT HOOK BY VILLANUEVA, TURNS ESCALANTE'S HEAD SHARPLY! Escalante keeps himself from getting pinned on the ropes by flurrying up at Villanueva, exchanging shots with him, getting pummeled in return! Brave little *******!

Villanueva got his motor running in the third, was definitely busy, but to my eyes he didn't start landing the clean stuff until the 4th..

In rounds 4-6 he kicked the little fella's ass. Could have been stopped many times now without even being deemed "British". :yep

 

Round 7

Uppercut by Villanueva!! Escalante backs out and pops a left hand off the top of Villanueva's head as the taller man leans in and slices at the body. Villanueva is untiring, pressing forward and throwing bombs. BIG STRAIGHT RIGHT FROM OUTSIDE BY VILLANUEVA, FLUSH ON THE CHIN AND BLASTING ESCALANTE INTO A CORNER!! Escalante won't go down! Or back down!! Escalante hops around Villanueva and pushes up his right jab, trying to land a left uppercut as Villanueva comes hammering in on him. Clinch. Escalante is elbowed into the ropes, and Villanueva unloads with big power combos once he has the small man positioned where he wants him. FLUSH rights and hooks by Villanueva. Escalante has CHEEN. Villanueva ducks a high left hand and flops against Escalante, pushing him into the ropes. Body shots by Villanueva. 1-2 to the face by Villanueva!! Escalante almost slides down the ropes to the canvas!! Somehow he keeps his feet!!

And who knows? Maybe those of us who didn't buy the Don King PPV will turn out to have been the "suckers". TNT vs. TOS could actually be a rare heavyweight war with a brutal ending.. :yep
