Solo Boxeo Tecate: Sanchez vs. Favela & Gonzales vs. Gonzalez RBR

Round 1

BG takes a few moments to take stock of the southpaw style, watching the right jab comes at him as he circles to his own left (away from the power hand of LG). BG thrusts out a few left jabs but has them slipped with quick head movements. BG tries crouching a bit on the outside as he circles, trying to punch his way in from unexpected planes. LG keeps his composure and continues to paint BG with his nice right jab. BG circles and looks for an opening but can't find one, missing a right cross off the lateral step. A left hook/right uppercut combo is caught on the elbows of LG. BG continues to circle and mull over the puzzle.

Round 2

LG starts hauling off with big right hand leads. BG is trying to quicken his step to get squared up and pop off some left jabs before LG can turn and set his feet. It's a positional chess match now, as LG keeps his stance narrow, his left foot trailing well behind him as he coils himself up and tucks his elbows into his body every time BG throws punches, then comes back with his own whenever BG begins to move laterally.

BG took that one back, the same way he lost the 1st - activity.

Round 3

The two are almost totally synced up now and canceling one another out, throwing their jabs simultaneously and parrying each other perfectly. BG starts to work a right uppercut to the body as he worms his way around LG, who still has control of the center of the ring but is no longer keeping BG as mystified with his southpaw game. LG hurls a hard left hand lead. BG jabs and crouches on the outside. BG misses another uppercut. They parry jabs a bit. BG lands one of his. LG triples up his right jab but BG is far enough away to leave him pumping air.

Round 4

BG is starting to find a rhythm now, putting right uppercuts together with one, two or three quick jabs at a time. LG is slamming BG with hard overhand lefts that back him up but mostly hit forearm. BG is looking pretty slick defensively, using all four limbs in smooth unison as he skirts the ropes and counters LG with fast, flashy hands. LG is still in the fight, and throwing some good hard punches but getting outmaneuvered.

Round 5

BG is throwing his jab a bit more seriously now, and uses it to set up a nice 1-2-3 as Lester comes at him furiously pumping his right jab. LG is keeping his guard tight and his steps short but is still getting countered effectively by the more athletic Gonzales. Lester is still able to make his opponent miss a bit with his own quick shivers and body feints, and shows his strength by judo-tossing BG to the ground. Nice left uppercut by LG. BG responds with a pair of hard-driving right hands after digging in his heels. They menace with their jabs in the final moments.

That was a close round. Brandon good early, Lester good late.

 

Round 6

They cross jabs, and Lester is the first to deliver a power punch with a left hand to the throat. BG jabs high and then tosses a straight right hand down low. The match is taking on a more tactical feel as both size each other up and slow their roll. Lester is caught at the end of a long right hand and winces visibly. Brandon keeps on him and knocks him into the ropes. The crowd reacts very noisily, and Brandon struggles to keep a cool head but manages to do just that. He dodges a right jab and gives a quick directional change after plugging a right hand to the body. Lester seems to have shaken the cobwebs. Brandon times him with a 1-2 through the right jab. BG sticks his left arm out but turned in, perhaps having intended to feint with a jab or maybe just having thought better and retracted it but has his arm shoved into him folded like a pretzel in any event. He spins out of this jam, briefly exposing his back. Body hook from Brandon. Jabs on the move from Brandon. Lester misses a decapitating left hand. Brandon flurries on Lester's face. Brandon lands a nice uppercut but Lester responds with three hard left hands that clap loudly against Brandon's head.

This was the same pattern as round 5 but Brandon definitely had Lester hurt.

 

Round 7

Lester is really hammering away with that left hand now, selling out with it. Brandon is trying to keep it more of a boxing match, adopting a low left hand stance with his shoulder dropped down and his head held aslant, with the right glove up to catch shots as he circles wide and keeps his whole body turned in. Brandon double jabs but Lester just jumps right in with an overhand left. Lester keeps trying to line up the one big straight power shot while Brandon boxes his way around him, landing several jabs and a short uppercut.

Round 8

Brandon gets moving, putting his jab out and moving in half-moons around Lester. One quick but parried right hand from Brandon is quickly retracted as he keeps the motor running. Brandon swats away the left hand of Lester and then whips him with some hooks that land just below the shoulder. Brandon sticks his left jab out in Lester's face and digs a right to the body. Lester slips a jab and blocks a right as he tries to hustle inside. Brandon lands an uppercut to the gut that stops Lester in his tracks and leaves his overextended left arm dangling harmlessly a few inches from Brandon's nose. Lester plows forward and double jabs and takes another right to the belly. Brandon is really targeting the lower regions with his rear power hand, while jogging around looking fresh. Lester flaps his arms to get the blood circulating as he tries to will himself forward and land somethig big. Brandon easily evades him and pot shots from the outside, bouncing off the ropes and clinching just before the bell while Lester grabs and slaps.

Well he certainly didn't look flawless...but he did look good. I'm pretty sure that's the first southpaw he's faced - and certainly the first one that was halfway decent...and he passed the test.
