Wilfredo Benitez vs (154) Bernard Hopkins *** Roberto Duran vs (160) Kelly Pavlik *** Sugar Ray Robinson vs (160) Roy Jones jr. *** Andrew Golota vs (HW) Jimmy Ellis *** Henry Amstrong vs (154) Don Curry *** Erik Morales vs (126) Sandy Saddler *** Just for fun. Try and imagine how some of these fights would play out.
Benitez vs Hopkins...Provided those extra couple of pounds didnt weaken Hopkins, I think he overcomes some early trouble to grind out a decision. Just has a few to many tools at his disposal along with being the bigger, stronger man. Pavlik vs Duran...Barkley-esque kind of war, and one where I see the result being just as close. Likely disputed, Duran outboxes Pavlik at times but gets steadily outworked in a enough rounds to make it very close. Jones vs Robinson Opinions differ widely on this one...This is a fight where I initially feel Roy will outspeed and outmaneuver Robinson to eek out a decision, if over 12. I think the shock of such a style and sheer quickness will be hard for Ray to deal with straight up. I do not however see Roy coming out of a series unscathed, in fact I actually see him getting stopped at some point. Quite possibly giving Ray the edge in their rivalry if they had a few fights. But for one fight I really see Roy being poison for Robinson (or anyone) if he only had 12 heats to contend with him for. Ellis vs Golota...Not sure about this one, the heavies arent my forte. I reckon Ellis would make Golota look silly with his speed and mobility, but I truly just dont know for how long. I dont think Jimmy has the power to keep Golota off him and he is just giving away to much weight here. Golota isnt a total spastic, I think he would have to drop the ball not to eventually catch up with Jimmy. Armstong vs Curry I gotta say Don from the McCallum and Montgomery fights wins this fairly wide on points. Morales vs Saddler One of the few guys I am pretty sure that stops Morales at this weight...Sandy gets on top later on after a brutal war.
